One proposal we hear all the time--chiefly from the left side of the political aisle--is that we need to "tax the rich" and "make them pay their fair share".
That is pure BS. The FACT is that the rich pay almost all of the taxes, anyway. Look at the numbers:
Less than 2.5% of all taxpayers pay nearly HALF of all taxes. The top 15% of taxpayers pay more than THREE QUARTERS. The top 36% of all taxpayers pay roughly NINETY-THREE percent of all individual income taxes collected.
Conversely, the bottom half of all tax payers pay almost nothing. The rich ARE paying taxes. They are paying MORE than their "fair share".

But we know this. The left likes to vilify people who can support themselves by implying they are paying very little in taxes through loop holes and hiding money in off shore accounts.
