arli Lloyd, Becky Sauerbrunn, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, and Hope Solo—the five most recognizable names from the U.S. women’s national soccer team—have filed a federal complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, requesting that U.S. Soccer be investigated over wage discrimination.
The U.S. women’s team earns remarkably less than the U.S. men’s team, despite winning far more frequently and gaining a much larger and more active fan base. Over the past several years, the women’s team has won three World Cup championships (most recently in 2015) and continuously taken home gold at the Olympics. The latest achievement by the men’s team was making it to the quarterfinals at the World Cup in 2002.
“The filing, citing figures from the USSF’s 2015 financial report, says that despite the women’s team generating nearly $20 million more revenue last year than the U.S. men’s team, the women are paid almost four times less,” reports ESPN.
Well, here's the problem, though. Aren't those run by completely different organizations? If the women's soccer organization has no authority over the men's soccer wages, they can't be held accountable for paying less. It's like a woman suing McDonald's because Burger King pays men more.

I'm not sure, but I thought they were both under the USA soccer umbrella or something like that.
id be interested to know.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
Yes they are winning and made more money and had higher ratings. Which blows the whole "they arent bringing in the ratings and money " false excuse. I hope they win

Winning isn't the measure. Any NBA team will make more money than any WNBA team, even the losing ones.
The measure is what they bring in--and if they are the cash machine, they deserve to be compensated.

Yes. I agree. Just making the point that the men not only are not bringing in the money they arent winning either. They are making more to just show up and not even produce.

Oh yeah. They suck.

The men can't even compete with the average teams in this hemisphere. They are light years behind the likes of Brazil, Argentina, and most European teams.

Ok, so how many years have they been bringing in more revenue than the Men's teams? Often, these lawsuits come about using one or two data points that support their point, when in fact, overall it isn't true. I don't know what the real data is, just saying look into it deeper.

It's hard to know the answer, but the ratings for the women's World Cup in the U.S. have got to be worlds ahead of the mens, and if they aren't turning that into revenue, thats not the players faults.

The women's contracts guarantee a salary and have many benefits the men don't get such as health insurance, pregnancy leave, and guaranteed salary if they get injured.
The trade-off is that their incentive bonuses were much lower.
The men, on the other hand, play for little to no salary, no benefits, and almost all of their pay is in the form of incentives--which mostly they didn't meet, anyway, so they weren't actually paid those amounts.

And right there is a good example of the problem with the "equal pay" law.
