‘Fresh Face’ Best Chance for GOP to Beat Hillary

Thursday on Hugh Hewitt’s nationally syndicated radio show, former Bush adviser Karl Rove speculated on who might be the best equipped to take on Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton in a head-to-head general election match-up.

Rove suggested a “fresh face” would be the best option and compared Republican presidential hopefuls

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)

97%

and Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) to the current GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

“In terms of being able to match somebody head to head against Hillary Clinton, that’s going to be difficult to do. We’ve got numbers on Kasich. And he is tending to, in most of the polls, beat her. And Ted Cruz runs a lot closer to Hillary than does Donald Trump, tends to, I’ve seen in some polls beat her, but mostly slightly behind here. I think, though, that let’s say this. If we have somebody who we think has, has been battle tested, and has strong conservative principles and the ability to articulate them, and they are nominated at this convention, there will be a lot of acrimony from the people who were seeking the nomination. But if it’s somebody who has, you know, has those convictions that they can express in a compelling way, we could come out of the convention in relatively strong position, because we do have, you know, look. Donald Trump excites a lot of enthusiasm. But he also excites a lot of anger within the Republican Party and outside of the Republican Party. And a fresh face might be the thing that could give us a chance to turn this election and win in November against Hillary.

A fresh face Rove? Do you really think that we voters are going to stand by and let someone WALTZ into the nomination who didn't do a damn lick of work to get there? Um, no. Think again. If you GOP esties want to throw the race and let Hillary win, then so be it. I am not playing.

Ok. So just glancing over the thread titles and read this one as "Fresh Prince"

And I think, ok, when did Will Smith sign up?

This would be me!  LGS said that only people who get out there change the world.  I just don't have the desire to put myself and my family through that kind stuff.

Well, if you are looking for a perfect human being, there aint' one. And, really would you WANT someone who has lived such a charmed life and never had a misstep? I would'n't. People make mistakes. Maybe Cruz cheated on his wife but if he did, they worked through it, his marriage is still intact and he seems to have a loving relationship. Trump has run the gamut of relationships. Hillary put up with Bill's shenanigans. I don't fault her for that , but i do fault her for her Policies that she would enact and her breaking the law with the email scandal and numerous other scandals.
But, yes, the world is run by those who Show Up.

I gotta say, I truly think the story about Cruz cheating was totally made up. All five women denied it. One of them is active in the Trump campaign. Two hired lawyers. It really didn't even stay in the media. It was there for one night and the next day the story was over. If it had any truth to it at all those bloodhounds called reporters would have stayed on it mercilessly until they had something.

Yeah, not sure i buy into that either. And, frankly, i am with the rest of you. Could we get back to the ISSUES please? What is going to affect America and the vast majority of us and not this stupid petty crap?

Well, here's the thing with the affairs... Whoever, and I have no idea who did it because that's another issue, leaked them said Katrina Pierson slept with Cruz. She used to work for Cruz. She was in a high spot on his campaign. When Trump came out she went over to his camp. Now she is a key person on Trump's campaign. She does not like Ted Cruz. I mean seriously, there is no love lost there. So whenever they accused her of being one of the women he slept with she went on TV and said, "I don't like Ted Cruz. And there are many things I can accuse him of. But cheating on his wife is not one of them." She literally went on to say that as much as she despised Cruz he is the type of guy that would never cheat. I think it's pretty telling when your enemy is saying people are lying about you.

And yeah, let's leave the families alone and get back to the issues.

Or perhaps she is touting Cruz's virtue because she is denying her own actions in his affair?

She could easily do that without implicating herself.  She could easily say, "There have been rumors of his infidelity for years.  That's one of the reasons I left the campaign.  I never had an affair with him and don't know if the rumors are true but it has been talked about."  In Washington you don't even have to have the truth.  Just the rumors.  The rumors are enough.  Because people say where there's smoke there's fire.  There is no way in hell Katrina would ever let a moment go that involved trashing Cruz.  And the whole story only stayed in the news for less than a day.  If there was anything to it at all it would still be going on.  And I mean if there was even the slightest whiff of impropriety.  Plus, if this was such a well known fact, as the National Enquirer is claiming it was, why haven't other politicians used it before now?  You don't think Rubio would have thrown that out?  Kasich?  Christie?  All those guys who left the race would have used this a long time ago.  The NE is saying his affairs were wide spread.  Not buying it.  Would have come up waaaaaaay before now.

Well, the Establishment will win either way. If they nominate Paul Ryan and all the voters get pissed and don't show up, then Paul Ryan and the establishment win. He maintains his power. Hillary gets elected. And, the Repo Esties quell the rebellion and carry on as before. It's a win win for them even if they lose the election. It is much more important for them to maintain their power than it is to win the Presidential election. The fact that our candidates not only have to run against the Dems but their OWN party is quite a sad commentary indeed.
