Fooling My Garmin

OK, this past weekend, i had to take DD for a basketball tournament.  And, my idiot Garmin wants to take me down every podunk backroad there is.  We actually followed the Garmin last year and it was a miserable trip!  Anyway, i had to fool it.  I had to set to certain towns along the main route i wanted to go and then reset it for the next town and the next because even when i got miles and miles down the road, it was still trying to take me down every stupid road!

I think its a Garmin thing. Other one's I've used don't do that.

One time it took us so far back in backwoods KY, you could hear banjos playing.wink

Why can't they have one that shows you the route and then let's you choose from a couple different alternate routes?

We let it take us to Savannah once. We've been there hundreds of times but followed the instructions. It had us get off I-95 only to get back on at the next exit.

I've used my phone, Google maps. It's pretty accurate.

But if it tells me to a way I don't want to go, I go my way and it recalculates.

I still keep a road atlas with me.

I plan my trip with the Atlas and use the map app while driving.

You need to go into settings and choose highway routes. You probably have least mileage set which I believe is the default for most GPS systems.

Whatever you do - NEVER choose SHORTEST route. That can get you in some scary places.
