How about a challenge?  Go to the store and buy some ingredient, food, vegetable, etc that you have never used and make something that incorporates it and report back here.

Sounds like fun.
We should all post our new recipes here.
I'm going to get some turnips and parsnips. I've never had turnips.

Can I just go to a restaurant & order something instead? LOL

Or maybe just choose a different topping for my Triscuits?

I'm going to try some butter beans. I've heard people talk about them but I'm not even sure what they look like.

Do they taste bad? My brother in Mississippi seems to like them.

I don't like them.

Lima beans either.

I like every other bean but those two.

I've tried liking them.

Both the butter and lima.

The kids like them.

I make them for the kids.

I'd rather have Great Northern or pintos.

Tried using bacon while cooking them.

Made an awesome juice.

But the beans is just too.... thick?

I don't know. It's just too much.

Sort of.

I get them dry. Soak them over night. Then rinse them, cover them with chicken broth and add either pork jowl or bacon, salt and pepper. Cook in crock pot or the stove till done. Sometimes you have to add water.

About an hour before it's done I crush some red pepper flakes in an let that simmer.

The kids love it. I love the "soup" from it.

It's just the bean, itself I have problems with.

I agree. I'm not sure there is a worse food on the planet than lima beans.  The thought of eating them makes me gag.

Sazon. Try it. It's a fantastic blend of seasonings. Buy Badia, which has no MSG. Great on chicken or pork. Probably good on fish, too, although I haven't tried it yet.

Sounds fun!

Once my kitchen is excavated, I'll browse the store for something I've never used.

I love Badia spices. I get them for free at work. What does Sazon have in it? Can you describe the flavor?

I can't really describe it other than very flavorful. Garlic powder, salt, pepper, oregano, coriander, annatto, cumin. Not sure what else.

I add it to adobo, 1 T. vinegar, 2 t soy sauce, more garlic powder & oregano, let marinate for 20 minutes, then broil. It's one of my boys' favorite ways of seasoning meat.
