I saw him open for the Stones at the L.A. Colosseum. He was just starting out in his career, having had one breakout hit called "I wanna be your Lover." I'm not sure why he was part of the bill. J Geils, George Thorogood/Destroyers, etc. It was the wrong concert for him to be at. All day concert, a lot of drunk/high Hell's Angels. He came out wearing a thong under his trench coat which was revealed when he would jump up and down. Either the second or third song in his set was "Head." Well, the crowd was having none of that and boo'd him off the stage, throwing paper cups, trash, whatever they could find. I was just glad they had to leave their empty Jim Beam and Jack Daniel's bottles out of the arena.

He wasn't 67. He was 57.

There was an edit. It said 67 earlier. I didn't know it had been corrected.

He had the flu last week, he may not have fully recovered. Coroners report will take 3 to 5 days they said on the news.

Sad day in music history.

We were speculating about that at work. Though he must have felt healthy enough to start touring. You never know though

This is what I know...on Saturday, his plane made an emergency landing because of his health. There were rumors that he had died then. Well, on Monday, he showed up for his concert and from all accounts, was perfect. He told the crowd, "Don't waste your prayers on me just yet".

So when I first heard this, I was REALLY skeptical.

ETA:  Reports that he performed are untrue, but he did take the stage at a dance concert to tell them the above quote...

DD said he had epilepsy as a child. I wonder if he had some underlying issues.

Local story here. The coroner's van drove up to his house at 11:00am and by 11:40 TMZ was reporting that he died. Later his publicist said it was indeed him. I was trying to hold out any hope it was a mistake. The local radio station is playing his music from 1-10 today in chronological order. It's awesome. Tomorrow people in Minnesota are encouraged to wear purple in memory of him.

I heard he'd spent his last few months writing his memoirs because he felt the end was near.

I also heard when he was little he had epilepsy and one day told his mother he was not going to have any more seizures. She asked him how he knew, and he said an angel told him.

There is a massive vault at his studio with all sorts of unreleased music in it. I am hoping that we will finally get to hear what's inside the vault.

I don't know. He was very protective of his music.

As he should be.

Someone once asked Eric Clapton what it felt like to be the greatest guitar player ever. Eric responded "I don't know, ask Prince".
