Each to their own.  I am not sure what my kids will do, but I always enjoy whatever it is

My mom passed away 19 years ago, and for the first couple of years I really struggled with Mother's Day, I had a hard time celebrating being a mom, when I just felt the huge empty spot in my life where my mom always was.  I just felt like a motherless daughter.

Then I realized she would not be happy with me at all for not allowing her grandbabies celebrate and spoil me like I always did her.  So we started a tradition where we got pale pink and white balloons, one for each of my kids and myself and they wrote a special message on them (I wrote for them when they were too young to write) and we sent them up to Heaven.  It helped me and them grieve and while I will never get over losing her, I have just learned how to get through.  It is not easier, it is just not as hard.

I have been blessed with five darn awesome kids who are all great adults!! that I not only love, I truly like!

 Please d0on't do that.

It kills so many animals. They suffer from a slow and painful death.

I knew someone would only get this out of the message.  I shared personal feelings that I usually don't feel comfortable sharing, and then only this.....

not to discount what you have to share...but that this is the ONE thing you had to point out

I KNOW what it's like to lose a parent. I know what it's like to lose BOTH parents. I know what it's like to feel like an orphan and I know what it's like to miss them every day.

That being said, I merely asked you not to release balloons which kill animals and marine life.

 It's not your place.

You have no business telling another how or how not to deal with their loss and how they want to remember that person.

In situations like this, the thing to do is mind your own darn business and keep that clap trap of yours shut.

Many people don't know how much damage balloons can do.
Call it a public service announcement.

Maybe you're OK with marine life starving to death with bellies full of balloons, lily, but I'm not.

You just can't help yourself. Don't know when the shut up.

I don't believe anyone wants to hurt marine life.

I swear, you'd ruin a wet dream.

Wow.... the bickering never ends, even on the mothers day gift thread.

I always buy my mom hanging baskets, well both moms. My adoptive and biological mom.
My kids have been, in the last few years, going in together on a charm for my pandora bracelet.

My son always buys me a hanging basket and takes me out to dinner.

We usually do dinner on a different day, because it's so crowde4d on MD.

No. You took a moment of sharing and tried to turn it into some kind of statement and animals.

You belittled the sentiment and made it seem bad.

That is nasty.

Rant about your so called causes when it doesn't minimize a fellow poster's memorial to their mother.

I was perfectly respectful.

I didn't insult anyone or call anyone names. If you want to continue on your tirade, knock yourself out.

It's not like you have anything better to do.

You were wrong to say ANYTHING in a negative way on the subject of how a loved one is honored.

Let's go elephant poaching to honour a loved one! Let's shoot a few dolphins! Let's kill some endangered white rhinos!

You OK with that?

Again.....if you don't like my posts, don't read them. You have hissy fits several times a day.

Ignoring them would be better for your health.

Did anyone say anything about poaching or killing any animal? No.

But you just had to make some ridiculous statement.

And now you want to pretend to care about my health?

You're so fake.

You were wrong, and you know it.

Own it and be adult and apologize to Riding.

Many people are not aware of the deleterious effect balloons have on wildlife.  I merely pointed it out.

If you want to be all butthurt, go for it! I'm done with you.

I'm done with your ranting and raving.

Do you know the meaning of those words? I have neither ranted nor raved.

What I did do was point out your insensitive little lecture.

Do you not understand there are times when you DON'T lecture and just keep your mouth shut.

You attempted to shame Riding for the way she chooses to honor her mother.

THAT WAS WRONG OF YOU.

Riding, please keep honoring your mother as you see fit. You and your children and grandchildren have found a wonderful way of honoring your mothers memory. Don't let one thoughtless comment keep you from continuing your tradition.

You mother was a wonderful woman, she gave us you. :)

I did get what you were saying and I was certainly not disagreeing.  but it just hit me...hard...something, like I was sharing one feeling and yet all that was taken from it was that.....

And I also have lost both parents also.  My dad when I was 15 and he was 39, mom when I was 35 and she was 62.  so I do understand the feelings we all feel on these days when we miss our parents.  I have enjoyed this board and feel I *know* many if you, and with that being said, as in *real life*  I feel I generally know what to expect from some people in my life, who are very lovely people, but we just have too many differences.  Not to say there can't be mutual respect, but on my part no interaction.

I am so sorry for you losing your parents, it is a sad empty feeling to be an orphan, no matter our age.   ((HUGS)) to you

One last thought... we DID that the first little bit for my kids mostly they were 9, 5, 16 months and I was pregnant with my youngest when she left. and we did it the first year when my late husband who was 41 was killed. so now it is not something we do, but it helped make a difficult time easier for us and I will never apologize for that. But I do apologize for upsetting you, that certainly was never my intent. We have planted special flowers in moms memory garden in my yard, as we are rural Wyoming.

Thank you.

It's really hard.

That being said, if you knew how hard I worked to save that duck and how heartbreaking it was, you'd understand why I said it.

I do understand, truly, but it seemed to me that perhaps that would have made a good stand alone post to share, that we could all add to and learn from. Not one on how people celebrate for and with their loved ones, on a thread on what our Mother's Day plans are.

In all seriousness, start a thread on it, because I too have seen animals injured etc. due to things that happen no matter the intent behind it and it would be a good PSA thread.

Not to tell you how to post of course

ON a happier note, I will be spending Mother's Day with my two grandson's, they are almost 3 and almost 2 and my other daughter is expecting our new grandchild any day now. Time with them and my family will be something I will do to celebrate!

Sorry to bring a down note to what should have been a positive thread.

Happy Mother's Day to us all, whether our children have skin, fur, fins, feathers or scales LOL

 That's great! Congratulations!

My son wants to take me out for dinner. I want him to buy me a bucket of chicken.
We have a Mother's Day promotion at PFK (KFC) where you can record a Mother's Day message in the lid.
I so rarely eat that, but I could make an exception for Mday.
Grease and salt...yummy.
We'll have to talk.

I was joking about you picking the greasiest of all fast food when you usually eat so healthy.  Enjoy your KFC.  It is too greasy for me.  It tastes good but kills my stomach.

I don't really eat healthy. I don't eat meat, but it's not for my health.

If I was concerned for my health, I'd quit smoking.

I AM a foodie, but that doesn't mean healthy. It means good food.

The last time I had KFC was about two years ago. I was just released from the hospital (again) and told to eat a light, bland diet.

I was jonesing for KFC, though. I sent my son out for some, and after I ate it, I thought I was gonna die!

I'm ready again.

Most of what you post in Lets eat sounds healthy to me but since I set the bar pretty low in nutrition what do I know?

The last few times I ate KFC I also felt like I was going to die.  It's been at least 5 years since I've eaten it.  Now I found that Harris Teeter grocery store has the best fried chicken ever made & it doesn't make me sick.  I haven't had their is ages either but only because I'm too lazy to go to the store & buy it.

Not really healthy, but I'll always pick real cheese over "processed cheese food."

Gourmet, artisanal small-batch cheeses made by Trappist monks? Always.

Healthy? Not so much. It's very high in fat.

I always pick real cheese too but I'm more along the lines of Sargento or Cracker Barrel. I do enjoy a good gourmet cheese but not on a regular basis. It can be expensive.

Kerrygold is a good middle cheese.

I'm actually going to go to the store tonight.  Just so I can try to find that...

We are having brunch at 11:00 at my mom's.  It will be a simple no cook meal of chicken salad on croissants & fruit salad.  The chicken salad comes from Costco & is made with rotisserie chicken.  It is really good & no one has to cook.  I don't think the weather will be nice enough to eat out on the porch though.  I always give her a large basket of trailing flowers for her urn.  There is a lovely flower market on my way to her house that makes beautiful baskets that never disappoint.

I've never heard of it.  I will look to see if my service carries it.

Wow it must be damn good cheese if Oh4 is going to the store!
