 This isn't "ridiculous".

An otherwise attractive woman who doesn't shave can be ugly.  A hideous troll who does can at least be looked at without wanting to lose your lunch.

It is ridiculous. How does not removing hair make someone ugly?

Haven't you ever seen unshavd pits?  It's ugly.

In SOME cultures. Why are UNSHAVED pits on a MALE acceptable?

They AREN'T acceptable to show at a wedding.  If this was a groomsman who wanted to wear a wife-beater would that be ok?

 BullCrap.  It's absolutely the issue.

You seem to think if the situation were reversed it would be acceptable.  It's not acceptable for either gender to show hairy armpits at a formal occasion, or even a semi-formal one, or even many casual ones.

For a wedding, if I were a bridesmaid, I'd do what the bride wanted within reason. I would not get a tattoo, piercing, or anything else permanent. I would refrain from cutting my hair, if requested. I inherited my mother's hairless gene and my body hair is sparse enough that I rarely have to shave but I would shave, if requested.

I don't understand the reluctance to do as the bride asks. If she's being a jerk about it, sure, I can understand telling her to stuff it. But a polite request for the wedding day should be honored if the request is reasonable.

Since I don't think the sister will shave her pits or if the bride wants to the bridesmaids to wear a jacket as a compromise, I think the bride has the right to ask her not to be in the wedding party.

I've noticed that back here, men wear shirts at the pool...those rash guards. Weird. Growing up in So Cal, men went shirtless. No manscaping either. I remember when I was in my 20's I dated someone a little notorious...the son if a public figure. He was a triathlete. Shaved his legs. I thought it was very odd. Then in my 30's I dated a competitive body builder. Shaved his chest. WTF? A little feminine for my tastes.

I dated a guy in high school who was on the swim team. They shaved their legs because they believed they moved faster. Armpit hair grows fast so she can go back to hairy armpits after the wedding.

I dated a wrestler, he shaved everything below the eyebrows during season.

The weightlifters I trained with, did too.

We wear shirts when swimming a lot of the time.

We burn.

Jesse got the hair gene. Bless his heart.

Perfect specimens of masculinity can wear them. The rest of the planet, not so much, lol.

 Lol! Why?

Because American men don't have the need to prance about in speedos with all their junk hanging out, that's why.

Except if they're posing for a magazine, then apparently it's fine & dandy.

 Huh?

 The "eye candy" thread.

Flan is trying to get on a moral high horse over a catalog picture.

We had a situation similar to this. Dh was asked to be in a wedding, then a week before said wedding the bride hinted that she would like him to shave his mustache. He had the mustache when asked to be in the wedding with no mention of wanting him to be clean shaven.

I actually posted about it on MM and the consensus was no, he should not have to shave.

Perfect specimens of femininity should wear a bathing suit at the beach or pool. All others should wear a muu muu.

I really don't get the problem with telling the girl to shave her pits. If I was the bride, I'd have told her when I asked her to be in the wedding - if you say yes, you are going to have to shave, and if I was the girl's mom, I'd be telling her to shave her pits because that **** is NASTY and no one wants to see it.

However, everyone is assuming this girl won't come to her senses on her own.

It's ugly.

Yep, I have seen unshaved armpits. Mostly on dudes, admittedly.

i have never seen a mans shaved armpit, come to think of it.

And dudes go around topless all the time, showing everyone their hairy gross armpits.

We all know it's acceptable for men and gross for women. It just is. Trying to pretend this is some kind of equal rights thing is disingenuous.

 Not at weddings.

My 2 cents worth: It's the Bride's day, follow the Bride's wishes.

Personally, I don't have an opinion, one way or the other, about pit hair on women. But I do think it should be appropriate to the situation one finds one's self in. If you are at a hippie commune and all the other ladies have pit hair and everyone is letting it be shown, then that's acceptable and great, stay furry. If you are at a wedding and will be the only one with visible pit hair that day, shave it, it will grow back if you absolutely must have it.

Conform to the acceptable standards of the society you are present in.
