Mold has been excluded on all forms of property policies here for years.

Have you ever taken a class on mold put on by a remediation contractor?  Man they show the grossest pictures.  The one of a house in FL that got moisture in it & then the family left for half the year.  I guess it was a vacation home.  Anyway when they got back the entire interior of the house was engulfed in mold.  It was like that southern moss hanging from the ceiling.  It is burned into my brain forever.  I bet even after Alzheimer's sets in I'll still remember that.

Mold is easy to prove though, isn't it?

Not here. They have an ice dam back up then claim mold 6-8 months later. It is a dance.

Mold is excluded? That would be a bummer for a homeowner.

No, I've never taken a class on mold, but we still have problems with it around here. We (our church) had to tear down the parsonage due to mold about four years ago. The mold was between the walls in the bathroom and went clear to the roof of the two story house. Sad for all of us, as a church, to see it torn down.

It has been excluded for years.  There is a specific exclusion on every property policy.

I'm sorry about your parsonage.  I'm sure that was a very sad experience.

A friend of mine had to walk away from her house because of mold. Insurance would cover one remediation, it came back.

What causes mold to grow in houses so bad they have to walk away? Poor ventilation? Lack of heating/cooling systems?

All of the above, houses built poorly.

I wondered if it had more to do with the age of the home.

It seems there is more mold issues now. I think it's the way homes are built now. The energy efficient homes are sealed so tightly, any moisture that gets trapped becomes mold.
