A friend's son who is unemployed is thinking of applying for a job as a UPS driver. They make more than you would think (about $30/hour). The problem is that he doesn't know how to drive a manual transmission. I think the trucks are manual. Do you think a few driving lessons on a manual transmission car would qualify him for the job?

Does anyone here know anyone who works as a UPS driver?

They make a TON of money. $30 an hour is the starting salary for a driver.

But I've never known someone that immediately got in as a driver. They have always had to load trucks or sort packages for 6 months or so. I think that starts at $18 an hour, but it's really a hard job. Very hot in the summer and freezing in the winter...

My nephew, Jake is a UPS driver in the Cincinnati area.

He worked as a loader, part time, for several years while he was in college.

Then full time as a loader, for a couple of years.

I think he would need the truck drivers license.

I don't know of anyone who got a job driving, right off the bat.

My friend worked for UPS a few years ago & she had to start as a loader too. She made decent money & picked up crazy hours during the holidays. She got good benefits I think after 30 or maybe 60 days.

He would also need to have a CDL (Commercial Drivers License).

Yes DS worked there and you have to start as a loser. Pay and benefits are great.
