Well, I am known for putting up with very little bullschitt. During that time, I put up with NO bullschitt. I would rip you a new one in a heartbeat...

Nice. I guess we can't really be professionals then can we?
Who wants a lawyer who is having a hormonal imbalance and emotional issues?
You guys are killing me.....
So, you are missing a big subtext here.
Women apparently can't control their hormones when it comes to their sex drives, but they are required and expected to completely control their hormones when it comes to the physical ailments that come with PMS.
That's moronic.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
It can be very, very obvious. When normally calm people get tense and irritable, it's usually really noticeable, especially over time.
But not everyone's behavior changes. I guess I assumed that most professional women acted...professionally, no matter what time of the month it was.
flan
LOL. Because you never get irritable? I call bull****.
And- oh yeah - many women CAN'T HELP IT. It's a hormonal imbalance.
This board is NOT my job.
Hell, it's been maybe 10 years since I've had a period...
And there are things you can do to correct that imbalance.
flan
Yes, and I do them. There are also ways to prevent pregnancy, but you defend that failure ad nauseum. If women can't be expected to exercise basic birth control b/c of whatever reasons they have for that, why the hell should they have to take hormones and drugs to control their emotions.
I love that little double standard.
And let's not forget the mental illnesses that can be controlled with medications, but they get your sympathy b/c of possible side effects.
Hormonal imbalances are a physical medical malady - not an emotional one.
YOU are the one giving women a bad rap.

YOU said that! You said that sex was an urge and to deny that urge is inhuman!

Do you not understand the difference between deny and control...IF I used those exact words, that is.

You said "sex is a natural urge" in contradiction to my post about controlling yourself and not having sex so you don't chance getting pregnant if you don't want a baby.

WTF??? I am a professional, have been all my career. Been through heavy periods, pre menopausal, and menopause. And many times one cannot control it. They can, however, control where they are and one learns to recognize the signs and leave the room. Either you have a low hormone level or you are lying.

Personally, I don't feel it is as much about feminism as it is about professionalism.
Some here seem to take great pride in the fact that "everyone knows" when they have their period.
I find that to be in direct conflict with being a professional, in an office environment.
So someone comes to work with a broken leg and shouldn't use their cast and crutches? Great double standard.
So you treat your period as a disability? For 12 weeks a year you go to work disabled? That is a great way to portray women trying to maintain a professional demeanor at work.
If you feel overly emotional yes, by all means go to the washroom and get a grip then get back to work. Seriously.
A broken leg isn't a disability either; it is a temporary MEDICAL condition. If you are so ashamed at being a woman and all that goes with it, well that is your choice. Some of us don't hide it and have a good mind set about it. A by product of that is that our daughters don't feel ashamed when they have it and all that it brings.

And I dont leave my feminism at the door when i walk into my office. Women have periods. Deal with it.
No. I don't have to deal with YOUR period, that is my point.
Yeah, you do. Just like you would have to deal with any physical issue...
Its not a disability, don't make it out be be one.
Of course it is! Don't downplay the hormonal upheaval.
No. If by the time you are a grown woman in the work force you haven't figured out how to deal with your period, you have a problem...not a disability.
Imagine a female police officer acting how you suggest is normal?
Apple, with all due respect, you speak like someone who has never dealt with the period some of us have.
It can absolutely be debilitating and disabling.

I will say AGAIN that the vast majority of librarians are women. I have no idea where these women are that you all are describing, but I haven't worked with them.
According to some posters, it's a CHOICE to act like a raging b1tch. Stay home if you cannot be professional when you deal with the public and co-workers.
And I must have missed the "ashamed of being a woman" posts.
Yes, sex IS a natural urge. What else would it be?
It's the second part of the "statement" that I question.
flan
You have said a number of times that people can't control themselves and abstain from sex. Over and over. Are you changing your tune now to fit this particular conversation? I mean, it's normal that you do.

What's that old saying, if you can't see it in others, it's probably because it's you.
