So, this happened in my neighbourhood last evening . . . about 6 blocks from my house on the street I take to get to work....

Man shot and killed in SUV in Vancouver

One man is dead and Vancouver police homicide investigators are searching just off of Cambie Street and 27th Avenue for evidence. Grace Ke has details of this developing story.

A A +

Crime scene tape is still up this morning in the South Cambie neighbourhood of Vancouver.

A man was shot and killed in a SUV in the 500-block of West 27 Ave. around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Police were called to the scene after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls. When they arrived they found a silver SUV on the sidewalk and the driver had been shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he is known to them and the shooting appears targeted.

Detectives from the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section have been called to the scene and will likely remain in the area for the remainder of the day.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Vancouver Police.

I drove by it on my way home last night at 11pm. 30 minutes after the shooting. If I'd left work on time, there is a good chance that I might have been a witness. I left 30 minutes late. The place was already crawling with police when I drove by.

Oh - and I think that the job interview went really well. BUT - this is a highly competitive specialization and I know that there are a million people out there with more experience/training. Hopefully my charming personality wins them over!

Drove by it on my way home again today - and will again when I leave for work in half an hour. Still crawling with police. The SUV is still sitting there. The current theory is targeted gang shooting, which is funny-not-funny because the "Politically Incorrect Map" of my city indicates that I live in "Wanna-be Gangster Land". This is the first flat-out known gang activity in my part of the city. Most of the targeted shootings (there's at least 1 per week, sometimes more) have been taking place in the outlying centers. Not in my part of Suburbia, but I know that my neighbour on the left is a grow-op and the neighbour on the right in the downstairs suite is a high-level drug dealer (lots of tinted window SUVs pulling up, idling while someone runs inside and then leaving . . . ).

This is the first shooting in this part of the city, though.

Just got to the elementary school for my mom's class' 5th grade graduation program. I stopped and got her some flowers. I also have my tissues ready, this will be my mom's last school program. She has decided to retire after this year.

Awe, be sure your mom has plenty of tissues as well.

I attended the grade school honors presentation after the kindergarten graduation today. Two teachers retired today. Lots of tears from those two teachers. I hated to see them go, both due to health reasons. They are both awesome teachers. I bet your mom is awesome as well.

Oh, mostly happy tears. I'm so excited for her. Most people don't know she's retiring. So sshhhh

Perhaps you should have shown up as your avatar, and TOLD them to give you the job.

I hope for an early bedtime tonight. I'm exhausted. Got home from Oklahoma on Sunday (accompanied MIL - by her request - to her brother's funeral). It's been nonstop activity since I got home.
