US Judge Sends Shockwaves Through DC With Gun Ruling: Concealed-Carry Laws Unconstitutional
A federal judge ordered the city of Washington, D.C. to not enforce its concealed carry law that requires individuals to state a “good reason” for carrying a firearm inside the district.
U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon ruled Tuesday that city officials requiring prospective concealed carriers to make their case as to why arming themselves is necessary is unconstitutional:
“I find that plaintiffs have demonstrated a substantial likelihood of success on the merits of their claim that the District’s ‘good reason’ requirement is unconstitutional.”
The suit, brought forward by Matthew Grace and the firearms advocates “Pink Pistols,” scored a major victory for gun rights with Tuesday’s ruling.
The ruling is yet another check on some of the strictest gun laws in the country, which are only mirrored in nearby Maryland, as well as New York.
I'd love to see D.C. The museums alone could make a very lovely vacation.

The museums are great. The zoo is lovely. The cherry blossoms are beautiful in season. The good parts of town are great. Just stay out of the bad parts. I'm sure it is the same with every big city.
I'd love to do a long trip, doing all the historic places that built the country.

Yeah, I did the steps, Trudy. My cousin-in-law's father was a nurse who treated the real Reagan (a boy). Cousin-in-law came up for a visit and we did the whole Exorcist bit. I knew where the stairs were (been there a few times) and he showed me scenes where the movie was filmed in and around campus.
It's ok. They don't kill the tourists, just each other.
You know what? This is kind of true. In the city I used to live in, I ended up in a very not good part of town. I had to stop to get directions. These two scary looking most likely gang dudes were in the parking lot. They took one look at me and said "you must be lost" and proceeded to give me directions.
My reason. I want to protect myself and my kids. Is that a good enough reason? If not, then sorry, Obama doesn't get to protect himself and his family with guns either.

I wasn't aware that Obama wanted your gun snicks.
Really? Sorry you haven't watched the news in years apparently.

I've seen him beef up existing laws but I have yet to see him take guns away from honest people like yourself. Did he ask nicely at least?
Every time someone is killed by a person using a gun, he jumps on it and announces more gun control. Never mind the nut job pulling the trigger. Have you not seen any of his press conferences?

Yeah, he "cried" over some black kids getting shot and killed by other black kids, but has yet to shed a tear for those killed by terrorists...

Funny. He isn't shedding any tears over the black kids killed in Chicago every weekend.

Yes unfortunately I have seen lots of press on the many, many mass shootings in America.
What I was asking is, what laws were passed (by Obama) that take guns away from people like snicks, who want to protect themselves?
We have the right to bear arms. Sorry you don't like that right. But that is our right in America. And, it doesnt' matter WHY. I dont' have to justify it to Obama. I don't have to only have a gun for hunting or whatever. If you want to play the Stupid Card, then play it. You can go and Google Obama's list of comments and actions on guns. Feel free. I am not going to do the work for you or play that game if you are ill informed. I have played this game many times with liberals. "Oh, show me a link, blah, blah". Then you do and "oh that doesn't count cuz it's Brietbart". Or the author is a conservative or any number of ways to ignore the content of what we are talking about.

He makes speeches about wanting to limit gun rights, he stirs up the media, he causes a frenzy in his followers to attempt to make change.
And HILLARY wants gun control, and the next President will likely get to choose several Supreme Court vacancies. Those are the people that interpret the Constitution, and I don't want anti- gun nuts deciding to scalp the 2nd Amendment.

Hillary said she wants to shut down the NRA.
FALSE
EXAMPLE:[Collected via email, October 2015]
Hillary Clinton is reported to have said, "I will get the NRA shut down for good if I become president. If we can ban handguns we will do it." in an interview with the Des Moines Register on August 8, 2015. True or not true?
ORIGINS: On 25 October 2015, a Tumblr page dedicated to fake Hillary Clinton quotes posted a meme of the Democratic presidential candidate that included a quote supposedly uttered by her during an interview with the Des Moines Register on 8 August 2015:
Additionally, a search of the Des Moines Register's archives yielded no results for the phrase in question. In fact, this utterance was absent from all major news publications.
We looked into a handful of memes posted by the "Shocking Hillary Clinton Quotes ..." Tumblr page and found that the provided source links never matched up with the purported quotes.
Not only is the above-displayed Hillary Clinton meme fake, but the "Shocking Hillary Clinton Quotes..." Tumblr page is just another fake quote generator created in the same vein as Facebook group "Stop The World, The Teabaggers Want Off."

apple - you have GOT to stop assuming you know what people are talking about and posting the WRONG links.
I assume it's because you only get some of the news up there in Canada.
Hillary Clinton slammed the Supreme Court as “wrong on the Second Amendment” and called for reinstating the assault weapons ban during a small private fundraiser in New York last week, according to audio of her remarks obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
While Clinton has previously supported an assault weapons ban, this is the first time since launching her campaign that she indicated that she would take on the Supreme Court over gun issues.
Although Clinton did not identify which Supreme Court case she disagreed with, she appeared to be criticizing the landmark 2008 ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller, which found the handgun ban in Washington, D.C., unconstitutional.
“I was proud when my husband took [the National Rifle Association] on, and we were able to ban assault weapons, but he had to put a sunset on so 10 years later. Of course [President George W.] Bush wouldn’t agree to reinstate them,” said Clinton.
“We’ve got to go after this,” Clinton continued. “And here again, the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment. And I am going to make that case every chance I get.”
She also used some of her strongest language yet to criticize the NRA, vowing to take on the gun rights lobbying group and make this a key component of her campaign.
“I’m going to speak out, I’m going to do everything I can to rally people against this pernicious, corrupting influence of the NRA and we’re going to do whatever we can,” she said.
Clinton argued that the NRA has “so intimidated elected members of Congress and other legislative bodies that these people are passing the most absurd laws.”
“The idea that you can have an open carry permit with an AK-47 over your shoulder walking up and down the aisles of a supermarket is just despicable,” she said.
The comments earned applause at the closed-door fundraiser, and demonstrate Clinton’s efforts to appeal to progressive donors as she faces a growing challenge from the far-left candidate Bernie Sanders, who has been criticized by some liberal observers for his broad support of gun rights.
The Clinton campaign did not respond to questions about the specific areas where Clinton disagrees with the Supreme Court. However, the Heller ruling is considered the most sweeping and controversial second amendment decision made by the highest court in recent years.
The Supreme Court affirmed that the Second Amendment granted gun rights to individuals whether or not they were members of an organized government militia in 2008. That ruling overturned the District of Columbia’s total ban on ownership of handguns and other strict forms of gun control. It also created the legal precedent that continues to influence all federal court rulings related to Second Amendment cases.
The NRA responded to Clinton’s remarks in a statement to the Free Beacon.
“Hillary Clinton just doesn’t get it,” said Chris Cox, the executive director of the NRA’s legislative division. “The NRA’s strength lies in our five million members and the tens of millions of voters who support the Second Amendment. A majority of Americans support this freedom, and the Supreme Court was absolutely right to hold that the Second Amendment guarantees the fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms.”
The Clinton fundraiser was hosted at the Greenwich Village home of John Zaccaro, a convictedfelon. During her remarks, Clinton also proposed the creation of a national infrastructure bank, which she indicated would be modeled on the work done by the Clinton Global Initiative. She did not take questions after her speech.

So they couldn't "find" any, so they don't exist? God, you are SO gullible!!!!!! It's cute if you weren't serious...
And no one even believes Snopes anymore. They have been caught lying so many times. But you go right ahead and use them as your source. While we laugh...
For once I'm glad to be proven wrong! Not that I thought she could actually shut them down.
You weren't proven wrong.
Besides, Snopes is no longer reliable, anyway. They have become so left leaning, they post their "truth" with a liberal slant.
So much spin on everything it is hard to know what to believe. But whether she specifically said those words or not she is full on pushing for gun control.
It's the mantra around here...Some "boogeyman" is going to take their ARSENAL away from them.
flan
Wrong again, Flannie! (I've lost count)
I'm not worried in the least about them taking my arsenal. I'm worried about them requiring me to register already owned and future purchase guns. That's exactly why the private sales of guns is so high right now.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton explicitly stated her plans to "shut down" the National Rifle Association and expressed hope at banning handguns in an interview with The Des Moines Register last summer. At least, that’s according to a viral image that first cropped up on an anti-Clinton Tumblr blog and has been shared widely on Facebook.
"I will get the NRA shut down for good if I become president. If we can ban handguns, we will do it," the post quotes Clinton as telling the Register on Aug. 8, 2015.
But here’s the thing: The quote is wholly fabricated. Clinton was never quoted in the Register making that statement, and it appears she has not made such a statement anywhere else.
Clinton campaigned heavily in Iowa throughout the summer and fall of 2015, and Register reporters and the paper’s editorial board interviewed her several times. But she was not in Iowa on Aug. 8, when she allegedly made the statement. Clinton’s first visit to Iowa in the month of August occurred on Aug. 14, followed by public events on Aug. 15 and Aug. 26.
A review of the Register’s archives show Clinton was neither interviewed nor quoted directly on Aug. 8 or in the days immediately following.

And.....
Obama can't pass laws. We've been over this before.
He tried very hard to pressure Congress into passing stricter gun laws. He can't pass anything on his own. It's a Republican House and Senate. They didn't fall for it.
He comes from Chicago, with the strictest gun laws in the country. He wants that for the country. Luckily, cooler heads than he have prevailed...

I don't believe that about snopes.
I also don't believe Obama has passed any laws that would take guns away from honest Americans.

How exactly did Obama try to take away your right to own a gun. YOU, specifically.
