Most of the time, I try not to let insomnia bother me. My advice: don't pay attention to the clock.

Read, watch TV, surf the Internet, paint your nails (okay, scratch that one), shop online.

Difficult afternoon, my 12 hour cough medicine seemed to taper off starting at 8 hours.

(cough, cough, cough, choke, cough cough ... )

Sleep time.

Have a good night, my friends,

Ed

I have a rash on my back. (scratch scratch scratch)

Doctor says it's there because the chemo is working.

Apply Aveeno lotion several times a day.

Preparation H will numb it.

Pawpaw used it.

Talk to your pharmacist and look up every medication you are taking.

Check for interactions.

But pawpaw used, granny and my other pawpaw used it, too.

Saw my chest surgeon today, with last Friday's chest x-ray.

There's a little bit of pleural effusion (fluid) around the bottom of my right lung.

If it doesn't get worse, we will watch it.

If It DOES get worse ...

back in the hospital to have a tube put in to drain it, then have talc blown in to irritate

the outside of the lung and the inside of the membrane so they will adhere together.

I do NOT like being sick!

I can't tell you how badly I feel for you.

I've seen a person go through this.

It's painful and debilitating.

I know you have said you have an inhaler and you take medication.

But do you do breathing exercises?

To help strengthen your lungs to make coughing more productive and to really squeeze out the fluid when you exhale.

Yes, thank you Lily, I have something similar.

My oncologist today sent me next door to have a lung CT

to rule out blood clots in my lungs.

I'm home, because they found nothing. smile

came home with a fresh infusion of the drug that affects blood vessels

and is causing my nose bleeds,

and a 4 week supply of the other daily poison pill.

Still alive, still breathing.

She recommended cortisone ointment for my rash. Spouse will have to wear gloves to put it on me.

I never think about it except around Thanksgiving.

Have you ever had butternut squash pie?

Sooo good.

Ah, not familiar with butternut squash.

Does the "nut" involve any actual nuts?

Decent day today, considering.

 Have to buy gasoline tomorrow.

Spouse picked the oldest Castle episode we haven't seen to watch

(on the DVR+)

and fell asleep after 10 minutes.

I stopped it, we can try again when she wakes up.

I've been doing an unfair amount of coughing today. cry

Just took Albuterol, 5 hours after the last dose. I hope it does its' job quickly

I took 4 garbage cans and 5 full trash bags out to the curb.

The cars aren't going anywhere until they get picked up, they're blocking the driveways .

I HATE having this cough. Sometimes the cough meds and Albuterol just don't keep it from

sidelining me.

at some point I might have to admit that I'll never go back to work cry.

You know, with your experience you might not have to fully retire.

You could work as a consultant or mentor to others in your profession.

What ever you do, it's time to take care of yourself.

You've worked, raised your family, and cared for your wife.

Enjoy life as much as you can now.

As long as I don't give up and tell my employer that I won't be coming back,

I still have health insurance and a big life insurance policy through them,

and a car and phone.

I really would like to go back to my job.

But it won't work with this cough.

You need to figure something out.

They might be ok with it now.

But eventually, they'll cut you loose.

I want to pay the doctors' bills tomorrow, but

it looks like didn't pay anyone enough.

I think most of the doctors' billing people told Aetna

that they were also billing Medicare Part B ...

which I don't have and which rejected all claims.

So I think I have to talk to Aetna before I pay anyone else.

Sorted through all the doctors' bills, put together the duplicates and I'm ready to pay everyone but my chest surgeon.

His office hasn't sent me a bill, but he billed Aetna over $300,000, and Aetna paid $500 and change.

Aetna said my part would be only $33,000.

No, not happening.

I'll have to find out what DRG codes they billed for, and what (1) "reasonable and customary" is for those codes, and

(2) what Aetna's contract payment should be for their "in-plan preferred providers" for those codes.

Then maybe find out what codes would make more sense.

Aetna sucks Ed, just a warning. You have to fight and fight to get them to pay the bills. Enlist the help of your benefits person immediately.

It looks like they paid everyone else, after my $1500 "out of pocket" deductible, and

the "co-pays" which are not outrageous.

I'm not going to sell my house to buy him a new Lexus.

Paid all the doctor bills I've received, $2300,

including (I think) my $1500 deductible,

and co-pays.

Chest surgeon hasn't billed me. I hope his staff can work out

something reasonable with Aetna.

Spouse has been sleeping soundly for about 6 hours,

DS2 went grocery shopping for us after work (Thank You Son!)

I  should take a nap now.

Spouse is REALLY MAD at me for being sick,

she believes that I'll be dead in 18 months,

so we have to NOW take care of some things, like

* find her a two bedroom apartment to live in,

* find a funeral home, and plan (and pay for ) my funeral,

* find a nurse (or aid) to help her get to doctors and

help her with her clothing in the doctors' office bathrooms.

* empty out and sell the house.

Starting shortly after we got married, she's been telling me

that I'll leave her.

Now, apparently, 40+ years later, she's right.

Well, maybe down sizing and preparing for the inevitable is exactly what needs to be done.

I'm not trying to be mean, but it makes sense.

I've been thinking about getting my funeral set up and paid for.

Why wait an leave that to grieving relatives when they aren't thinking clearly?
