OK here's the update.
I got a call from Irene, Ed's wife. He is in Hospital and not expected to last more than a few days. He is actively dying. He passes from dull wakefulness to stupor. Per Irene, he is ready to die and wants the suffering to end.
He has fought a good fight.

As I have moved, I may not be able to get back to see him one last time, but Irene will let me know when he passes.

This Board meant a lot to him, the camaraderie was very important. Several of you reached out and touched him very deeply. We spoke about the Board frequently.

We met each other through 'this' board (the other one). He was a very important part of my life. I am grateful to have known him.

I will miss him

Final Update
He is at peace.
Irene called an hour or so ago. He passed away, in hospital, around noon eastern time.
In accordance with his faith, he will be buried tomorrow.

Irene told me that up until a few weeks ago, she thought he was doing fairly well. Then around Thanksgiving he took a significant turn for the worse and just deteriorated.

She and the boys have my prayers. I will be unable to attend his services.

Those who knew him, here and in person, knew him as a gentle man who would never hurt a fly.

He will be missed.

Been busy at work but stopped in daily to quickly check this thread. I am so sorry to learn of Ed's passing. He was a kind, gentleman who loved his family and took his job as their father and husband very very seriously. He was witty and polite and always was eager to hear of other's good news. I will miss him.
