Well, I didn't go. My brother and his wife and kids went--and they took one of the kids' of the property owners where we are having the party.
They were gone for a good couple of hours (so, 30 minutes, my butt).
However, they did come back, and my mom even came out later, as well. My sister's kid whose birthday they were celebrating even came out with them. My sister never did take my phone calls for me to even suggest that she come out and celebrate the birthdays with all of us.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
I think she is wrong and i think that is pretty crappy. I think you should have a chat with her for sure.
I don't know what her deal was. Mom said something about her oldest daughter having to get back to go to work or something--but coming to our party would have required a drive of an extra six miles, and we already had the food and people there. Pretty flimsy excuse.

Her deal is that she just decided to be a Butt this year. Now, you do want to take a step back and not turn this into WW3. For some reason, this year, she has decided in her mind that there is conflict with your party and the birthday parties. So, I would discuss planning next year to plan a nice party for the kid and your party. There are multiple days on Memorial day weekend. How many days is your party? Could the kids party be on Fri night or a different day? Doesn't seem like this is something you both can't overcome.
Wait...this party was hosted by other people as well as you and it was held at someone else's home?! Yeah, I would have ducked out for a bit to celebrate my niece/neohew's birthday. Sorry. Family is more important to me than some party with friends - regardless of how many years we have done it.
Maybe your sister feels that family should come before this party you hold with friends and she is sick of her kid's birthday not being acknowledged by the family because you have a party? I wouldn't want to celebrate my kid's birthday at some party with a bunch of people who weren't family.

Not sure why you are painting husker as the bad guy? Let's not get on our high horse about "family" and the kids' birthdays, sheesh. But, for whatever reason, sis thinks there is a conflict, either real or imagined. So, there is a whole long weekend in which to celebrate. Next year, pic one of those weekend dates for the kid and another day for Husker's Memorial day party. Problem solved.
OMG, co host a party and duck out? No way. If someone did that to me I would be more than PO'd at them. And ducking out to say get more ice is one thing but "duck" out to go to another party that had been planned only hours earlier???

She didn't have to set it up as a conflict. She could have celebrated the birthdays a different day.
Yes, it was not on my property--but my wife and I were hosts. Many of the people invited were invited by us. I had three of my aunts come--and one of them was from out of town and we didn't know she was coming (and she's also my sister's aunt), so it was good to see her.
Beyond that, these people ARE family. We celebrate family Christmas and other holidays with them. We say it on here all the time--family isn't just blood.

Oh, I'll eventually get over it, especially considering that my brother and his family came back and my mom came out. I'm just going to be irked for awhile.

I miss my big family parties I had growing up. And my Dad's cousin, Ford, was a big part of it. He passed last night. Fitting for a WWII Vet to pass Memorial Day weekend, I suppose.
Glad your party was a success, Husker. Hold on to those traditions as long as you can. Because when they're gone, they're gone. I wish your sister understood this.
