I just can't believe the audacity of saying that churches that are sheltering, feeding, and likely clothing people are not helping those in need because we expect the members of that church to be able to continue to pray there.
What a ridiculous, ungrateful, stupid thing to say.
I didn't see anyone say that. I believe flan was referring to the churches actually being compassionate Christians and helping those in need by going so far as to ensure the refugees can rest in peace and quiet. I didn't see anyone say otherwise.
I see the refuges as ungrateful twits.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.

The devil burns when the Word of God is spoken. THAT is why muslims do not want to hear Christians praying in their own churches, the devil within them feels the burn.

Don't confuse the issue with facts.
flan
flan, I honestly do not understand how you can not see the facts.

Hearing a prayer wouldn't bother them otherwise.

Noise might.
That would lead to a question for the atheists here:

flan
A little noise from prayers? Really? They should be grateful a bomb isn't going off over their heads.
But, apparently it's okay to bit the hand that feeds or shelters you.

Oh, poor them. They have to deal with noise. Maybe they should just go back home if it's so bad...

They are getting food, clothing, shelter. So, they are gonna complained about being "bothered"? Um, no.
Again...the refugees did not ask for people to stop praying. The Catholics who owned the church asked for it. The refugees did not. Quit attributing this to the wrong group of people. It's dishonest.

Or that they aren't hearing the screaming of their families getting their heads chopped off or their daughters being eaten away by acid an inch at a time...

You don't think the refuges complained?
Okie dokie.

The refugees didn't ask for anyone to stop praying. The Catholics who owned the church asked for visitors to stop praying. Read the OP again.
Its dishonest to continue attributing this to the refugees who did NOT ask for people to quit praying.

What's dishonest is telling people to not pray in their own churches.
Nah, that's entitlement.
The refugees are not the ones who asked for people to stop praying. The Catholics did. Are they the entitled ones?
Yes. That is wrong.
I actually agree with you. I would expect to hear prayers in a church. If I were seeking shelter in a Muslim house of worship it would not bother me to hear their 5 daily prayers. But I am not from a war torn country, nor do I suffer from any sort of trauma or abuse. Most of these refugees have PTSD and if I were hosting them j would want to make them as comfortable as possible. Just as if I were hosting you in my home I would want to make you as comfortable as possible.

Why would they ask unless the refuges were complaining.
They might see it as a way of being hospitable, welcoming, of keeping the noise down so others can recuperate. They may have the unique skill of being able to see things from another perspective. Lots of reasons.

Not buying it.

You don't have to buy it. The fact is we don't know either way as it was not in the OP where the idea originated. Although we can postulate all day. We just don't know.

You do not know that the refugees didn't ask for the Charity to ask to stop the prayers. I think they did.
Exactly. You do NOT know what the refugees asked. You only THINK they did. Neither of us know for sure either way.
My scenario makes more sense. If it wasn't bothering anyone, why ask? That's just stupid...
Well the refugees didnt ask for the other church to take out the pews, they did that willingly. Churches in Europe are trying to be missionaries and minister to the downtrodden. They might just be trying to make the strangers feel welcome in a strange land.

I find it sad that some people feel they must find a way to blame these homeless people.
The reported accounts show that the Christian Charity asked that the rosary not be said out loud. That is what we know.
Only a non religious person would think it's ok to ask people not to pray out loud in their own church.
-- Edited by Tinydancer on Wednesday 8th of June 2016 11:44:45 AM
And yet it was a Catholic Charity that did so.
And I am an atheist and I think it was unreasonable. So I am not sure who you are talking to! Lol
Well, that is sort of the point isn't it? It was Catholics telling Catholics what to do.... So the statement that only a non religious person would think it is okay to ask people not to pray out loud, is incorrect.
They must have been asked by the refugees because why would they care if they're praying the way they always have otherwise. Seeing how we don't know for sure it's all just opinions and my opinion is that the refugees MUST have asked.

It is in the article, the Christian Charity did the asking, they also made other suggestions.
If you have evidence that the refugees asked for this or demanded it, please provide that information. At this time we can only deal with the facts we do know.

Reading the OP for a start. It said the church priest and volunteers asked the people to stop praying. Not the refugees.

I don't believe for a second that they would have done that unless they had received complaints.
