I will never understand the fear some people have when it comes to guns.
Fear is why people buy guns. I guess we are a fearless bunch. :)
That's absurd. I didn't buy a gun because I am "afraid" or fearful. I bought a gun because i simply believe i have the right to protect myself and my family if the occasion arose which i hope never does. I don't live in fear.

Neither do I. But I'm prepared should someone threaten me. Hell, I dont even lock my car doors. I'm not the least bit afraid...

None of you are making any sense. You're NOT afraid, yet you have a gun for "protection."
And what happens when someone steals your car with its unlocked doors?

It's not "fear". It's just commonsense. Do you lock your door at night? Why ? Does that mean you live in 'fear"? Are you living in fear if you lock your car? Are you living in fear if you go to the doctor to get a physical? You seem to have some need to believe that people who own guns are cowering in fear and nothing could be further from the truth.

Why should I be afraid? I don't live in fear, but bad things DO happen - all you have to do is read the news. I prefer to be prepared.

Thanks for the explanation.
The difference is that I would never pick up a gun & deliberately shoot someone, so that is where the analogy breaks down (for me).

Really? You'd just let someone come in your home and hurt your family without trying to defend them? I'd shoot them in a nanosecond.

It absolutely was not. The question was whether or not you would let someone come into your home and hurt your family without trying to defend them. Nowhere in that question did the words "do you want to buy a gun" appear.

Never felt afraid in my life.
I've always been around guns.
They don't scare me.

Protection from what? There is nothing wrong with saying you are afraid of something.
Do you use sunscreen? Take vitamins?
Do you make sure your car is running properly? That there is a fire extinguisher in the house?
Do you take regular precautions?
It isn't that you fear anything happening.
But you are prepared if it does.

Yes but why can't you answer a simple question?
From whatever.
I live in an active coyote area. You can hear them in the woods across from my house celebrating kills and talking.
There are bears spotted rather frequently around here, too. Not that a 9mm will stop a bear, but it might buy me time to get in the house.
I live across from a park. People out there at all hours of the night. Why would anyone be walking paths through the woods at 3 in the morning?
And houses on two sides of me have been broken into.
When I was working, there were lots of nights I would leave work with several thousand dollars for a bank drop.
There are all kinds of reasons to carry.
And none of it is fear.
It's being prepared.

Here we go again.
ALL those things affect ME, and only me. Shooting another human being...the very idea is just anathema to me.
And yes, I'm sure a few of you good Christians would love for something to happen, just so you could prove your point.
flan
Yeah, and if someone breaks into my house at 3 am to rob me, that affects ME. If someone tries to carjack me, that affects ME. If i am walking in the woods and a snake or bear would try to attack me, that affects ME.
Oh, and here we go with the Christian Card again AD NAUSEUM.

Poor baby!
I'm too tired to argue in circles this morning.
In each scenario you posted, YOU are not the ONLY one affected.
Huh? So you mean the person trying to assault or kill me, i am supposed to be concerned about their "Rights"? Oh, ok. And, you seem to dig at Christians nonstop here.

Where did I say that? I didn't.
flan
You said my scenarios didn't only affect me. So, who else do they affect then?
Americans carrying guns concealed or otherwise, its up to them.
Saying that it isn't the norm here (Canada), is not attacking Americans, its just saying that we do things differently.
I know that the Americans I know who have guns, some have them beside them as they sleep even, admit it is because they fear harm to themselves or their loved ones. Fear is the reason people buy guns, to protect themselves.
Why do some of you find that offensive to say or admit? I don't get that part.....
flan, why should anyone care about the rights of someone attacking them or their loved ones?
Sweet Jesus, I DON'T.
I just do not think that I would be capable of shooting another human being.
flan
And why should your inability affect other people?
Where did I say that it DID?
flan
flan, all of your comments show you are clearly in favor of more gun control. Just because you don't want a gun and don't think you could use one doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't be able to have one.

Why do you continually assume to know what other people feel?
And Cananda's laws have nothing to do with America - so you bringing up Canada all the time is irrelevant. It's like you are fishing so you can accuse people of bashing Canada when we don't agree with how Canada does things.
