 True.

We were awakened one night, back when I was a little girl, because the police had followed a guy into our back yard.

We lived on a main highway. 

The cops checked our house, told us what was going on and dad said "I'll get my gun and shoes". 

Mom had me and my brother in the closet with the scatter gun and dad was out in the woods with the cops with his .45 and 30.6.

Of course you couldn't do that now. 

But that's why it's good to be able to protect yourself.

The guy was found behind dad's building.

He had robbed a store 30 miles from our house.

What's funny, when dad and the police went to check on our only neighbor, a little old lady, half bLind and in her 90s, she answered the door with her .38.

She also kept a loaded 12 gage by the door.

If that happened now, she'd been arrested or shot.
