Senate Republicans rejected a bill that aims to stop suspected terrorists from legally buying guns, on Thursday. The vote came a day after at least 14 people were killed during the San Bernardino massacre in California by two suspects, including a woman said to have pledged allegiance to ISIS.
Forty-five senators voted for the bill and 54 voted against it. One Democrat, Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and one Republican, Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois, crossed party lines.
The measure would have denied people on the terrorist watch list the ability to buy guns.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who sponsored the legislation, argued that former President George W. Bush initially proposed the legislation in 2007, and the Obama administration also supports it.
“If you need proof that Congress is a hostage to the gun lobby, look no further than today’s vote blocking a bill to prevent known or suspected terrorists from buying guns and explosives,” she said. “Congress has been paralyzed by the gun lobby for years, while more and more Americans are killed in mass shootings. The carnage won’t stop until Congress finds the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and protect the nation.”
The NRA did not respond to a request on Friday for comment. But the gun rights lobby group told MSBC last month it wants to ensure that Americans who are wrongly on the terrorist list are are afforded their constitutional right to due process.
However, the bill would allow people to legally challenge a denial by the Justice Department to purchase a firearm, if they believe they were mistakenly placed on the terrorist watchlist.
The GOP-controlled Senate refusal to pass new gun control measures came weeks after the Washington Post reported that suspected terrorists had successfully purchased more than 2,000 guns from American dealers between 2004 and 2014, even though law enforcement is notified whenever someone on the FBI’s watchlist attempts to purchase a firearm.
I personally don't know anyone that wants to "ban" guns.
Does that include you? If so, then you have to agree the GOP did the right thing.
Innocent until proven guilty, remember? You can't take someone's rights away just because you feel like it. It was a bad bill and needed to be defeated.
However, if people are on watch lists, the government COULD do a better job of watching them, now couldn't they?

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
The point is, you take voting much more seriously than gun ownership and responsibility thereof.
You have your freedom to own weapons, from handguns to weapons designed to kill the maximum amount of people in the shortest time span.
What I am seeing here is that in an effort NOT to have too many restrictions on this particular right, you are okay with, and accept the fact, that crazy people will and do get guns and kill innocent people one at a time or in a domestic terrorist event like a school shooting. And THAT is just the price you pay for having guns so easily accessible.

Voting is limited to ONE vote per person and to citizens. That is why ID is required.
Guns are just a thing people buy.

You realize that our posting, and looking up information about Islam and terrorists/terrorism put us on a watch list?
Any post on FB the is opposed to the current administration can put us on a watchlist?
Certain leanings can put us on watchlists?
Those watch lists are ongoing and include all kinds of criteria that can get a person on them.
No. It isn't paranoia.
It's the truth.

Lily is right. It does put us on the watch list. I've known a couple different people who did in fact, have the FBI show up at their front door and take them in for questioning.
RE: the "watch list"....There’s a sentence that explicitly prohibits listing an individual “for engaging solely in constitutionally protected activities.” So as long as your free speech isn’t accompanied by any other “suspicious” behavior.

No. It is maddening to think that so many people think like this. That anyone opposed to gun restriction ACCEPTS people being murdered just so we can have lower gun restriction. As if all we care about is our own convenience. No, for me personally, I will feel LESS SAFE with more restrictions. Criminals will have no trouble getting weapons no matter what laws are in place. I do not think that these attacks would decrease with gun control at all.

Yeah, ok.
And it's all subjective.

lmao...well this is an about face. Now all you imbecilic Trump worshipers will think this is Trumps Idea?
Washington (CNN)Donald Trump said Wednesday he will meet with the National Rifle Association to discuss barring individuals on the terror watch list and "no fly" list from legally purchasing guns.
"I will be meeting with the NRA, who has endorsed me, about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns," the presumptive Republican presidential nominee tweeted Wednesday.

I totally disagree with him.
And he can't do anything like that anyway. Congress would have to get involved, so it's not totally up to him...
Not to mention that he has absolutely no way of stopping those people from buying guns.

"Told ya so!"

The "scum" is actually Obama who went on a rant yesterday pretty much blaming Donald Trump for the Orlando shooting. Not the shooter (one of his butt buddies, I'm sure), but Trump.

So we should get upset with a presidential candidate who wants to discuss possible solutions.
But
Be totally ok with a president who has bypassed the law making process and enacted laws on his own.
Yeah.
One of those is actually called treason.

You quote and respond to me more than the other way around.
You have just as much ability to ignore me.
I tried ignoring you, you couldn't get through a thread without quoting and responding to my posts.
So it's up to you.
Want me to leave you alone? You go first.

Not to impugn the abilities of the Moderators, but wouldn't it be simple to just find the post causing the problem and edit the problem out?
It's probably something with lots of "&nbs.p" (no period) usage (for anyone that doesn't know, "&nbs.p" (no period) is an unprinted character that causes boards to think of the space that appears in it's place the same as it would any real letter. so it won't "break" and go down to the next line if that is in place of an actual space)
