Guess which country has the most mass shootings in the world?

From 1966 to 2012, nearly a third of the world's mass shootings took place in the U.S.

It surveyed 292 incidents and found 90 of them occurred in America. Put another way: While the U.S. has 5% of the world's population, it had 31% of all public mass shootings.

#2. Philippines (18)

#3. Russia (15)

#4. Yemen (11)

#5. France (10)

The Orlando attack was by far the deadliest shooting in U.S. history (49 killed), and it is not even 10 years removed from the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre (32 killed), and the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting (27 killed). In fact, of the 30 deadliest shootings in the U.S. dating back to 1949, 16 have occurred in the last 10 years.

If you count how many civilians were killed by the SS in Nazi Germany or under Stalin then we don't even come close.

And yet, you think it is perfectly fine to have open borders, allowing God knows who to come into our country.  You are perfectly fine with Islam, a religion that throws gays off of rooftops and executes them.

Now look up massacres by WMD and see what turns up. That would be people killed by a tyrannic government who previously took all their guns away.

Lots of shooting in Chicago. Funny how you don't peep at that. Nor does Obama care about dead black children in his own hometown.

Deflect, deflect, deflect. You can also pretend that these shootings aren't happening in gun free zones. Or in states with more gun laws like Chicago, which you keep ignoring. Are you gonna comment on Chicago or deflect, deflect, deflect?

The government has never defined "mass shooting" as a stand-alone category. So, depending on whichever informal definition you go with, the tally can drastically vary. According to the Gun Violence Archive, which compiles data from shooting incidents, a "mass shooting" is any incident where four or more people are wounded or killed. That number can include any gunmen as well. By that definition, we've seen 136 mass shootings in the first 164 days of this year.

Now, let's consider the several ways the government uses the term. Federal statutes define a "mass killing" as an incident resulting in three or more deaths. The commonly accepted definition -- the one the FBI used up to 2013 -- is a shooting that killed four or more people. Then there's Congressional reports, which sometimes exclude gang-related or domestic incidents and focus on "gunmen who select victims indiscriminately." Use that, and the total tally dwindles to single digits.

We expect casualties during war time. At a school, church, movie theatre, nightclub...Not so much.

Let's look at those places.

Of those places, what are the gun laws?

And of the shootings, how many were in gun free zones?

And at what point did having gun free zones actually keep those shootings from happening?

Where are the most shootings, per capita, in the States?

Arm everyone willing to be armed and have them ALL carry. You'd be amazed how fast all these attacks stop. These shooters are COWARDS who go after the defenseless.

One million times, yes!!!!!!!!!!!

There was very little killing going on, in the Old West.

Despite what the movies, would have you believe.

When you don't know, who is carrying a gun, and who isn't.........it makes a difference.

Gun free zones are the stupidest thing, ever.

They make innocent, law abiding citizens, a target for crazy people.

JMHO.

I've said 100 times...

My town (with an 80% CCP rate) hasnt had a gun death in 11 years. Neither has the country of our lake house. What is so hard to understand about that? Places where the citizens are armed have the least crime rate....

 Amen!

I was talking with someone (not on the board) about gun control yesterday. She said she wanted stricter gun control. I and two others pointed out that gun free zones don't work and that criminals do not care about laws. I asked her what she proposes to be done so that the good guys (so to speak) will be protected from the criminals who will shoot them. She dismissed my question as "not my problem" and said she doesn't need to come up with any proposal. I still can't believe how incredibly childish she got when asked for what she would do. She said she was former law enforcement too. Scary how someone once charged with protecting us has deemed coming up with proposal for effective gun control to be not her problem.

Or, it's simply the snowball effect, no matter what person is the POTUS.

Have a problem? GUNS solve everything. And the unbelievable hubris of shooters who need to be remembered for KILLING.

I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that my granddaughter is growing up in a world where rational adults don't think twice about carrying a gun at all times.

I am watching Stephen Colbert interview Bill O'Reilly...very interesting and pertinent discussion.

O'Reilly believes that Federal gun laws should take precedence over state laws. He also does not believe that every Muslim in America is a problem.

(And since several threads here are aspects of the same story, I am posting this here.)

Obviously, America is #1 in many things. Unfortunately this is one of them. But, this is a huge country as well compared to the tiny countries of Europe. And, we are very diverse, unlike Canada so you can't compare our two countries.

Hell yes.  On a smaller scale DF carries and he's never had to pull his gun on anyone but a couple times the other guy knowing he had a gun stopped him from getting messed with.

if the odds are greater that people surrounding you are carrying .... A good deterrent.
