They have no power over me so I want the truth out there. You can pretend all you want and I don't think ISIS will care that you're not giving them attention. We'd both be just as dead if they get their way.
You are missing the point entirely. You are doing exactly what they want you to and you can't or won't admit it.
So not talking about them helps how flannie? You and apple keep saying that but keeping silent does nothing. I also don't give a rats arse what they want or what they don't. Seems to me you two are the ones letting them run your lives.

It would be if they shot and killed or burned Itty Bitty alive. I'm sure the people in the nightclub didn't think it would happen to them either...
Why thank you for the visual!
Are you proud of yourself now? Even I don't stoop to THAT level.
flan
Hey, all those girls they burned alive were SOMEBODY'S granddaughters. They never thought it would happen and probably made fun of people that believed it would...just like you do. But that's OK, right? As long as it doesn't affect you...

Terrorist thrive on your fear or anger. That is what they want. When you run around calling them out and focusing on THEM you give THEM the attention they seek.
By not doing that you take away their power. Its how terrorism works, this is not like a war against another country, this war on terrorism is quite different.
Hey, you know EXACTLY what you did, and you ARE proud of it.
Speaks volumes...
flan
I WORRY for my grandchildren. While you go about your day, thinking it couldn't happen to you and yours...
THAT speaks volumes.
And "WORRY" keeps them safe?
Gotcha.
flan
Absolutely. Worry causes you to take precautions and actually admit that there is an entire population of people that would love nothing more than to see them dead. So I go to lengths to protect them. I don't sit around and do nothing...

Course I might be afraid too if I lived in your neighborhood.

Doubt you have anyone selling anything in your neighborhood.
Anything legal, anyway.

Seriously. From the time I get home, until the time I go to bed, my front door is wide open. I have a storm door, but I leave the solid door open all the time if I am home...

You know how many times I go to bed with it open and get up with it open?
At least once a week.
The front door was open for 3 days about a month ago.
We left the back door open for a week when we were on vacation.

Flan: If that visual bothers you, you ought to stop ignoring that ISIS is a problem. You don't want them talked about - which I'm sure they'd like so they can do their terrorism unhindered. You also don't propose any solutions to stop them.
And yes, you do stoop that level. Daily. You can't resist taking pot shots at Lily and TD. You've taken quite a few at me. You're not innocent so stop playing the victim.

I make plans with my friends. I would never show up unannounced & neither would they. I was taught that as a child.

Then they aren't real friends. I want my friends to feel welcome in my home whenever they feel the need to drop by. Whether in the neighborhood, stopping by to see if we want to go out to dinner, or just stooping by because they feel like talking on their way home from work.
You live in an alternate universe. It's kinda weird...

I don't have to quote you. You know what pot shots you take. And, yes, THAT level - you are no stranger to bringing posters' kids and families into threads. You even brought my DS into it yesterday when you accused me of lecturing you.
As to your question: I'm not lecturing you so, therefore, I hope to accomplish nothing by doing so. What I am doing is having a conversation with you. I don't hope to accomplish anything via conversation either since your mind is closed to seeing reality and especially closed to understanding how your stances on whatever topic may affect your personal life.

City vs. country living.
How close is your closest neighbor?
flan
I've always lived in the city. Closest neighbor is within 50 feet, usually. Every place I've lived that had a screen door, the solid door was always open. The apartments I've lived in haven't had screen doors but sometimes the solid door would get left open.
My first apartment, the door would always be open because the breeze coming in from the pool area kept my apartment nice and cool. My neighbor right across the hall (3 feet away) would leave his door open too. We both had dogs and our dogs would go between our apartments playing with each other.

On the right, I can hear them talking on their carport in my bedroom.
On the left, about a 1/5th acre.
Behind me, our backyards.
And a county recreation area across the road. Complete with 12 ball fields, 3 basketball courts, 5 soccer fields, 4 tennis courts, a 5 mile walking trail with several smaller walking trails, a playground, picnic area, and about 100 acres yet to be finished. People are there all day and all night.

I have had friends stop by cause their kid needed to pee.
Yes.
They just show up.

We went to the lake one weekend and forgot to close the garage door. Left Friday morning, came back Sunday night.
We didn't realize it until we got home, but we laughed. I'm not worried about anyone breaking into my house.

Tell you something else, most our friends and a few neighbors and the whole family know where we keep the extra key, too.

I think having relationships with neighbors makes a difference.
I went to school with the kids that grew up on this block.
My mom drove the school bus through this neighborhood.
I was 20 when we moved in but I was friends with most the families.
Then the house to the right was sold to the parents of a guy friend I met my freshman year.
We all watch each other's kids.
And our kids have grown up together.
Community makes a difference.

The only strange neighbor we have moved in directly behind us.
They are the hippie dippie type but they keep to them self.
Matter of fact, the only gun fire we've had in our neighborhood was from them.
A rabid raccoon got in their building.

Of course it does.
When DH1 was killed, my neighbors all knew what had happened & helped out. We used to have cookouts in the court. Our next-door neighbors went to Kauai with us 4 years ago.
