More than a million Britons pleaded for a second referendum Saturday as Britain's seismic vote to abandon the EU split the nation after pounding world markets, toppling the prime minister and raising the threat of a breakup of the island nation.
In a sign of the fissures exposed by the June 23 vote, 1.2 million people signed a petition on the official government website by late morning calling for a repeat vote -- more than 12 times the 100,000 signatures required for a proposal to be discussed in the lower house of parliament.
Unprecedented traffic forced the site to be taken out of action at one point, a parliamentary spokesman said.
A parliamentary committee, which can put forward petitions for debate by lawmakers, will consider the proposal Tuesday.
Britain's startling vote to leave the European Union has reignited talks of secession in Texas, CBS Dallas-Fort Worth reported.
Daniel Miller, head of the Texas Nationalist Movement, sent a tweet to Gov. Greg About Friday morning calling on him to schedule a statewide referendum on "Texas independence."
Good Morning @GregAbbott_TX Its a great day to schedule a referendum on Texas Independence!t.co/u0U3aSHvOXpic.twitter.com/zLQTsNxjvY

The hashtag #Texit was trending locally, according to CBS DFW. People at the Fort Worth Stockyards had mixed reactions to the idea.
"It's worth a shot. I'd be happy," resident Tab Pigg told the station, saying the East and West Coasts "run everything."
"No one knows we're even here," Pigg continued. "Best thing we could do is let them have it. They want to make a wreck out of their part of the world, let 'em wreck it."
"I feel like that's almost a little arrogant," said Clavin Wiese, a tourist from Boston visiting Fort Worth. "What are you, too good to be part of the rest of us, the United States? I don't know."
In December, the Texas Republican Party rejected a proposed, non-binding ballot initiative that would have let voters consider secession during the March 1 primary.
The measure would have read: "If the federal government continues to disregard the Constitution" and Texas sovereignty, the state "should reassert the prior status as an independent nation."
State GOP leaders also abandoned a plank in the party's platform last month that would have supported a secession referendum.
Miller told Reuters his group has a quarter of a million supporters and will try again for a statewide vote in 2018.
It's a great day for Freedom. This gives me hope. Hope that people aren't the spoiled entitled losers that many of them seem to be. Hope that our country can turn away from the Nanny Teat of Socialism.
Why would I? The majority voted for it. So of course there will be growing pains.
1. It was a VERY close vote.
2. Why should I read what YOU post?
3. 1.2 million people signed a petition on the official government website by late morning calling for a repeat vote -- more than 12 times the 100,000 signatures required for a proposal to be discussed in the lower house of parliament.
Texas is one state that could actually do it and thrive.
People want change.
People are done with the way this, and that, country is going.

That wasn't a joke and you know it. I know it. The whole board knows it.

I would to Texas in a heartbeat. I love that state.
I've never been but have seen lots of pictures, documentaries and such on the different areas.
It's truly a special place.

Yes. The whole board knew you weren't joking when you said it. You may not have meant it (what a shock) but it sure wasn't a joke. Obviously it's you who needs to look up the definition of a joke.

The only countries that want to stay are those that don't have the finances to be looked to for bailing out the liberal pension plans of the other countries. Also the open border policies have ruined many of those countries. You can argue all you want but when 72% of voters of one of the largest nations in Europe turn out for a vote, you can bet they are serious.
when Tony Blair made a campaign promise to the independents to get their vote, he arrogantly thought that this would not happen. I think the democracies of this world need to stand up and take us seriously but we are mad at the way they have destroyed us.

The vote was 1% less than the Obama Romney vote. I guess we should get a do over on that too huh?
You dont like the outcome, so you call mulligan. Typical liberal logic. Bunch of whiny babies....

What the fvck did I tell you people? Shut the hell up - both of you. We are tired of this.
As of this moment - you MUST ignore each other for a solid week. No responding to each other, no side comments that could be interpreted as aimed at each other - NOTHING. The first one of you that does it - I'll ban you. And I'm not kidding.
We are all tired of your constant sniping at each other.
And flan - yes, we ALL know that wasn't a joke. Who do you think you are kidding?
This rule is in effect until after the 4th of July. Call it a trial to teach you each what IGNORE really means.
