A Texas woman who fatally shot her two daughters spared her estranged husband because she 'wanted him to suffer', a sheriff said Wednesday.

Christy Sheats, 42, murdered Madison Sheats, 17, and Taylor Sheats, 22, after calling a family meeting at their Fulshear home, west of Houston, Texas.

Investigators say she had 'had ample time' to shoot Jason Sheats during the horrific attack but had chosen to keep him alive.

'She accomplished what she set out to do, and that is to make him suffer,' Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said during a news conference.

Tension among the family had been brewing and Taylor had recently argued with her mother about plans to marry her boyfriend Juan Sebastian Lugo.

Her mom wanted to ground her daughter and prevent her from seeing her boyfriend, while her husband had argued it was inappropriate to ground someone of Taylor's age.

On the night of the shooting, on June 24, Jason had arrived at the home after his estranged wife called a family meeting.

He told officers he believed she was going to discuss their crumbling marriage and possible divorce with their daughters. Instead, Christy Sheats pulled out a pistol and shot their daughters.

Jason and his daughters fled out outside where Taylor collapsed, witnesses said.

Neighbors said the dad, 45, could only watch in horror as his wife shot their children on his birthday.

We read some more about this. This family had a history of domestic abuse calls, and the mother had a long history of mental illness.

Another fail.

Yes, the OP mentions that she had a fiance, so a heck of a lot more people are "suffering" because of her hatred of her husband...

That was one of the issues - the mother forbade her daughter to get married.

I believe that not only she hated her husband she was also jealous of her daughters and resented their relationship with their father. Very narcissistic and evil.

 Canadians don't hate guns.

I read so many crazy articles about Texas, they really are a bunch of nutbags who pine for the old west days. It would be comical if it wasn't so pathetic.

Texas isn't that bad. It is a huge state that can take at least two days to cross. When ever I go visit family I always encounter the friendliest people you could ever meet.

Not ALL Canadians but you seem to. Again Texans would think the same exact thing about you that your liberalism is so comical they would laugh if it wasn't so pathetic.

There are nut bags everywhere.  I found that people  who hates Texas the most are ones who never been  there. I'm not saying that to be snarky  at you, I'm just explaining  my experience.

While you pine away for the decade before WWII when all guns (including handguns and hunting guns) were illegal...

Yes it does get hot☺ the best time to go is fall through  spring. In the spring the hill country comes alive with blue bonnets  and is quite beautiful.

I would move to Texas.

This is an evil person who chose to inflict immense pain on someone she hates.

This would have happened no matter the method.

Texas is very conservative so it's no wonder apple doesn't like it.

I visited texas one time and I ran into the most delightful people. From the chatty friendly walmart clerk, to the very friendly waitress at the local steak joint... I loved texas folk.

I loved The Real Housewives of Dallas.

I visited Texas once a few years ago. My friend lived in a subdivision no different than one in any other state.

Texas isn't hot to me but I'm an Arizonan. However, I've never seen dead and brown in TX. The parts I'm familiar with all have lush green fields.

Texas is a very diverse  state. The east part of the state  is forest, pine and lots of lakes and the Sabine  river, south Texas the coastline , hills in central, the west desert and north west a part of the plains.

You landed in ft. Worth.

Did you leave the airport?

How do you judge a place by looking out an airport window?

Yep.  We Texans are a diverse bunch.  Fort Worth is big city.  Texans are known for their uniqueness.  Every state has nut jobs.  And trust me, some of the politicians from New York and other states are way worse than ours.
