Because we are humans, we are going to always start from a sinful place, working our way towards Godliness. As a result, you will always ALWAYS see situations where someone (Christian) is NOT quite there yet and is bumbling through the major points of the Bible. Marrage is only one of many. (Remember, this is a life journey, not a sprint, and certainly not an overnight process.) So again, you ARE going to have some schmucks that haven't gotten it yet and go outside of what is the ultimate will of God. The difference is whether they are truly looking to please God, or if they are looking to satisfy themselves. (It is hard to tell the difference between the wheat and the tares sometimes.) 

Christianity is a lifelong journey. No one wakes up getting it all, knowing it all, being it all, and being perfect over night. Again, it is a lifelong journey.

That said, I know perfectly well the scripture you are talking about. The one that schmuck Christian men use to dominate and brutally rule over their wives. However, if you look at the whole paragraph, you start to learn that the topic was more of a lesson to the man than to the woman. This tells me that men are the ones that need to take up the leadership role, to work that much more harder to have a God centered family in order to have a truly wonderful relationship with their wife.

Green is referring to both husband and wife

Red is referring to woman

Blue is referring to husband

My first husband was one of "those" christians (lower case c). It was the reason that after our divorce, I stated I didn't want to date Christian men. Cuz I saw how they treated their wives. Obviously I was speaking from a very battered, bruised and broken place in my life.

While I was prepared to go the rest of my life single, God allowed me a do over. He gave me prince charming and we have been in love since 1990.

And I don't know if I've ever seen a better "hijack."

I'm not flan327, so I may have this completely wrong, but, I don't believe that was what she was saying. I believe she was comparing marriages that do have that situation as being acceptable to Christians and the Church, yet loving gay couples are not acceptable. The only thing that most Christians seem to care about is, is there a penis and a vagina, one of each, in the marriage.
