I bought a new thermometer at Target today for the kids. It's $15 cheaper on Amazon. And I already opened it, so I can't take it back.

We have been hearing that today would be a day full of severe thunderstorms. We got all our patio stuff moved, got the cars into the garage and... nothing. Seriously. It sprinkled for like 20 minutes. I was kind of hoping for them, we haven't had too many this year.

Okay, I need to know what kind of thermometer you got.  Do you like it?  Anyone else?  I need advice.  The one we had we got free from Target for buying three bottles of vitamins or something.  It was just one of the old fashioned stick it under tongue ones but it was digital.  DH used it on one of the kids and then put it in a "very safe place" and we haven't found it yet.  I think I have a temp tonight and have nothing.  Who uses what?  What do you like/dislike?  Prices?  I figure if we buy one we'll find the "very safe place".

I got the Braun thermoscan 5. Its an ear thermometer. It was $50 at Target, but $35 on Amazon. I haven't used it yet except to test it, but it has good reviews.

I bet you can still take it back. If you have the receipt.

I use the Exergen temporal thermometer. The kids use it on themselves, too.

I know we are talking people thermometers but my vet uses the ear thermometers. Poor Desmond's ears are too big & it won't register so he has to have his temperature taken the painful way. I always feel so bad for him.

OK, carry on with people thermometers biggrin

I have that one too. It's just not very consistent, it's good for monitoring, but my kids' fevers get high, and the temporal scanners seem to run lower. So I like to have something else to double check when their temps start climbing.

I have about a dozen of these.

digital1thermometer1.jpg

They're about $4-5.

But honestly, I still use the old glass, mercury thermometer we've had since I was a kid.

It's in the cabinet, in its case.

It works beautifully.

But now, I have to have someone else read it if it don't have my magnifying glass.

I have never been able to read a mercury thermometer. Something is wrong with me, lol, but I seriously can't see the line.

 I can't anymore! LOL!!!

I taught my kids how, though.

I think it's likely that you need to adjust the angle.

The line does disappear, depending on how you turn it.

I went to the local mom and pop grocery store. I didn't have the energy to fight crowds and lines. I got the only one they had. A six dollar cheap digital one. It will work for now. Temp is low grade. 99.5

You def could take it back if you have the reciept. But the better bet is to go back and ask Target to price match it - they should be able to do that and give you the difference back. You just need to show them that Amazon has the exact same model at the lower price.

And FYI - if you ask Target to return it and they do, they will throw it away. Just know that. I don't like knowing it will be wasted.

Thanks. Target price matches quite a few online merchants and Amazon is one of them. It just has to be the exact same model number.

Thanks for the info! I will see if they will price match. I don't want to return it because there is nothing wrong with it, and it's my own fault for opening it.

I think that one will be fine for you. I have some of those stashed in my first aid kits and they work well. The other ones are just easier/faster to use on kids and get accurate results. Kids squirm, lol.

ETA: I hope you feel better! Wasn't your appointment today? How did that go?

Yes. I went to my appointment. They couldn't do my blood work because of the UTI. I have to go back next week. They are super sweet there. My spleen is massively enlarged so they're sending me to a GI specialist next. So more waiting.

I'm glad they are taking care of you. I hope you feel better soon.
