I don't know, don't you put one in each room and turn it on?

Do they create condensation?

How do you decorate around that?

I don't know how the cooling part works, but my friend had one in her apartment in Japan. It seemed we were always cold.

They have a component mounted on a wall inside, another on the outside,

connected by hoses, one for hot coolant going to the outside,

one for cold coolant going inside, and one for water going out.

What you DON'T have is a big hole in the wall.

Have you seen the DIY air conditioner on facebook?

It looks cheap.

Ed, that is why this system is attractive to me. i have already emailed a few local companies to talk to me. If I am not satisfied with them I can always use HD or Lowes.

I don't understand, IKWTDS.

You must have ducts, for the heat.

Right?

No, I have forced hot water which is base boards, no ducts.

 It is.

Inside is a sealed gallon jug of frozen water.

The air blows over it causing a refrigeration affect.

The air coming out of those three tubes can be freezing or colder.

My mom has one of those IKWTDS. She likes it. It heats/cools the area (her whole living room, kitchen, dining room- a big area- is open) pretty quickly.

I don't know brand and what not, but I can find out.

That is what we have here in Japan and it does keep us cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Has 3 functions: air conditioning; dehumidifier; heater. Condensation goes out the back; there will have to be a hole in wall for the electrical wiring to the outside motor and for the drain pipe. Buy one based on your room size. We have had no problems at all over the years.

A hole will have to be drilled through the wall to the outside to run the hose and such.  I have no issue with that.

I've seen commercials for them, IKWTDS, but I don't know anyone who has one.

Good luck with your search.

I hope you find some good ones.smile

My mom has a Mitsubishi brand unit. She said it's energy efficient, and hasn't had any issues, but it works better for cooling than it does for heating (which is what you mainly want it for, right?).

Thanks!  Mitsubishi appears to make the best ones from what I gather.  And yeah, only need it for cooling.

Yay! The Mitsubishi is the top of the line and affordable. Guy was just here. Because my first floor is fairly an open floor plan I only need one unit, and upstairs I am going to do the master. I am getting a multi zone condenser that will be able to handle hooking up the other bedrooms next year. They will run the lines for the other bedrooms through my walk up attic. This will all be done in one day.

I am so excited!  I have taken this dump in a good neighborhood and slowly have fixed it up.  Adding these a/c's will make the house easy to sell when I decide to.  They guy said the heating part work really well and is so efficient and of course the cooling is more energy efficient than window ac's.

Why do you need air conditioning in NH? For the 3 days it gets warm?

She doesn't want it. But I am holding onto my portables until the other rooms are done.

What is your definition of a warm day? And what are your average lows in the summer?

85+, mostly the humidity is an issue. Over the past 3 weeks it has been high 80's/90's every day but perhaps one.
