Castiel is an angel, we first hear his name when Sam and Dean are attempting to summon a spirit that is killing people who have killed family.
We first meet Castiel, Cas for short, in Season 4, episode 1.
Castiel raised Dean from Perdition.
Castiel forms a bond with the brothers.
He's basically the broken angel you can't help but love.
