Governor Mike Pence snubbed Manhattan's renowned restaurants on Saturday as he sat down for a celebratory meal at chain restaurant Chili's after being officially unveiled as Donald Trump's running mate.
Pence tweeted a photograph of himself, his wife Karen and daughter Charlotte in a booth enjoying a 'quick dinner'.
Within two hours of the tweet, 'Chili's' was trending on Twitter across the United States.
New Yorkers immediately questioned his judgement for picking Chili's - calling him 'shameful' and 'unfit for office' as social media erupted into a predictable frenzy.

Indiana Gov Mike Pence sent Twitter into a meltdown on Saturday when he tweeted a picture of himself and his family having dinner at Chili's
Having spent two days with Trump in Manhattan after being named as the Republican nominee for vice president on Saturday, Pence found himself in Chili's at 4pm after his private jet flight back to Indianapolis was delayed for an hour.
However, New Yorkers demanded to know why Pence had picked a Chili's outside Teterboro, New Jersey rather than one of the many famed restaurants in the Big Apple, one of the culinary capitals of the world.
'Hey Mike Pence, you know we have 18,000 restaurants in NYC, right?' tweeted journalist John Avlon.
'You came to New York City and went to Chilis? Shameful,' another user wrote.
'Trump/Pence 2016: Making America great again by having the worst taste in NYC restaurants ever', wrote another, sharing a picture of Trump and Sarah Palin eating at pizzeria chain Famous Famiglia.
But one Twitter user had a bigger issue with the time Pence chose to eat dinner, rather than the place.
'Bruh you're eating dinner at 4,' his first tweet began.
'Nobody eats dinner at 4 in NYC,' he continued in his second. 'That's still lunch hour.'
'If he eats dinner at 4pm you can only assume he's in bed at 8pm,' he wrote in the third. 'And I need a more active VP.'

All a ruse? Some questioned whether Pence had simply grabbed an early dinner or had intentionally gone out of his way to annoy some New Yorkers
It's ridiculous. But, that's how they make mountains out of absolutely nothing. Like Donald tweeting or postponing his VP pick, etc.
This IS ridiculous.
The Donald...depends on which tweet you're talking about. The one he sent after the Pulse shooting? And "postponing" his VP pick for TWO hours? THAT was an insult to those who died in the attack at Nice.
I have to admit, my first thought was "of all the places in NYC to eat, he chooses Chilis?" It had nothing to do with "all my spare time" it was just a gut reaction.
It screams of a set up to me. First, he would not choose someplace that public with all the publicity surrounding him, and now the secret service too. They would have to practically clear the place out. Second, he did it to troll people to get reactions. And third, I have not seen a restaurant with mirrors like that in years. It doesn't look right. I don't think the photo is legit.

Chili's is a chain, meaning the chicken plate in our Chili's is going to taste the same in that Manhattan Chili's.
The daughter is seated in a way you can't see her in the mirror. BUT if you look at the reflection, you can see her hair, and unless Pense has a goatee that only shows up in mirrors, there isn't a conspiracy.
But yes, let's focus on where he had dinner instead of how to fix our country.

Meh. My parents prefer to dine at chain restaurants. They know what to expect. The would be more apt to eat at Chili's than one of the really good restaurants in NYC. This could be such a situation. Or it could be a publicity stunt to let the public know they are normal folk like you and me. Who knows, and really, who cares.

Agree 100%. Photoshopped or not, doesn't even register on my radar. Could not care less...

My gosh now eating at chilis is a big controversy! I don't believe it was photo chopped. I think it is the way he is sitting, the table is casting a shadow on his daughters legs and he does looks like he has a goatee. They are just looking for something to gripe about. I have been to new York city and have both eaten at the nicer restaurants but also tgif's if we wanted to eat quick. Also I can see why they would eat at 4:00 because that would be before the dinner crowds come in.
This is much ado about nothing.

What base? All I hear from the left is that the GOP is for old, rich, white men. Not your typical Chili's fare.
The left needs to make up their minds...

Well in fairness, both parties are dangling by a thread. The GOP is the first one to fall since the party elite won't get behind Trump, they are having temper tantrums. The Dems are a step away because not only do the Dem elites not get it neither do most of their base. What is wrong with our system is the control by the party elites, Trump is breaking that and doesn't play by the same rules so this crap about Pence is just in the noise for most of us.
