OMG - flan, I've been thinking about you ... I finally found vanilla and cherry diet coke at a price I can afford! Grocery stores still sell it for 2.50 for a normal size bottle, but 7-11 has it ON TAP!! There is a new fountain machine that lets you pick your soda flavour (anything from iced tea on up) and then add cherry or vanilla (or both, but that doesn't taste very good). You can also add lemon if you want (I guess that that is for people who drink light coloured sodas.

I had a crappy end to my work day last night (one of coworkers didn't realize that I was still there and locked up the building while I was in my office with a client, which meant that all of the alarms went off). And then - we couldn't make the alarm re-set and had to call the company three times while they walked us through a full system re-set. Added nearly an hour to my night, and I have a one hour commute (which, I'll admit, is slightly faster when you completely miss rush hour).

So, I rewarded myself for surviving with a 7-11 Big Gulp (the 2nd from smallest size, which is really a lot of soda) and then sucked on the straw the whole way home. It was okay. Subway restaurants have the same machine and I've enjoyed it more from there (maybe because it's Pepsi? OMG NO!!!)

Anyways, the whole way home I had to tell you!

Morning kids. It is slightly less hot today than it has been. Which is to say the temps are in the low 90s instead of high 90s. The humidity is slightly lower too.

My hip is hurting. For no real reason it sometimes flares for a few days & aches, then stops. I didn't get much sleep because of it.

On a happier note when I got home last night Desmond & Bitey were both sleeping on the front porch. Not together but at least sharing the space. I think they decided it was just too darn hot to fight & decided they would just lounge in the shade instead.

Being back at work sucks. Ten days was a long vacation, but I should have taken today to recover! It doesn't help that I sprained my ankle on Sunday, but at least it was towards the end of the trip, and not at the beginning.

I have to go out.

Errands in town.

It's only 82 but the real feel is 105.

Lots of humidity after the storms last night.

Office max has spiral notebooks for 1 cent each.

School supplies are on sale every where.

And my nephew is packing getting ready to head off to college.

I want to get him a housewarming gift.

He is sharing an apartment with 3 others.

What are some things ya'll found you needed along the way?

Day to day things you didn't think about until they were needed.

Anything for the kitchen. Especially thing like ziplock baggies or the cheap plastic containers. A can opener. cleaning supplies. I know they are teenage boys & probably won't use them often but it might be nice to clean the toilet if they are having company.

Colander. Can opener. Glad plastic ware.

For something like this, I usually hit up the Dollar Store and walk down each aisle.  Grab a laundry basket and fill it up.  $25 will do the trick.  And everyone has told me it was one of the best gifts they received.  Stuff that they really did NEED...

Lysol wipes

Foil and Saran Wrap

Fire extinguisher

Those are good ideas. An electric pencil sharpener, if he doesn't already have one, would come in handy too.

I was up early and out for my walk at 5:30am.

It was 82 degrees, and 75% humidity. Not very pleasant, but typical for July in North Texas.

We got most of Paul's stuff home yesterday.

Will run back up tomorrow for the last few things, and to clean the apartment and turn in his keys.

He's applying for jobs today.

One semester of academic suspension.cry

Oh well, sometimes the lessons they learn the hard way, stick with them better.

I've got to hope.

Paul let his grades slide.

I got the letter, letting us know he was in trouble, the Tuesday before the wedding.

I buried that sucker until the following week. It was bad enough I knew. I didn't want Wayne to be stressing over it, too.

Paul retook Calculus in summer school. He passed it this time. But not with a high enough grade to avoid a suspension.

So, he just lost his free ride, on Mom and Dad's dime.

We'll have to see if he wants to go back in January, or sit out a year, and go back next August.

Whatever he decides, is fine. He just needs to get a job, and save his money.

The Bank of Mom and Dad, is closed.

Onething I saw clearly my freshman year in the dorm was,

the guys who were partying the most

were in school paid for by the

"National Bank of Daddy".

I told my kids, 'there are three things you can do in college,

Study, sleep and Party.

Choose two. '

If you watch, they go on sale at really good prices.

Thankfully this is the last year I will have to get them.

Our tax free holidays are coming up as well.

My hospital got a coke freestyle machine in the cafeteria. One machine. The line is so long now. It takes twice as long to dispense and now only one person can get a drink at a time. The cafe does way to big a volume to have one dispenser.

I've only ever seen one of those SB. I went to Five Guys downtown and they had one. But they also had a regular machine. I wasn't impressed with Five Guys.

A lot of fast food places have them here. It's a pain when people don't know how to work it or a kid is playing with it. At least with a normal dispenser you can slide in and use another spout while someone else is using it.

I can see how that would be an issue. Especially here when our dispensers have ice in the middle and then the drinks mirror image each other on both sides so there are two spouts for each drink.

Good for you!  It's better he learns the consequences of his actions early.  Too bad it's going to cost him so much.

I dated this guy briefly my freshman year.  All he did was whine and moan that his dad was going to stop paying for school because he was failing.  And then he kept skipping class.  Ugg.  I told him he was a loser idiot and I couldn't date him again until he grew up.  I never ran into him again so I bet he didn't get to go back.

That's our hope.

Or he was scared of you?  Just saying...hmm

I didn't say it like THAT.  He called me one day while he was supposed to be in class after complaining just the night before about how he was failing and his dad was going to stop paying for school.  I told him that I couldn't listen to that anymore while he was stupid enough to keep skipping class and not even trying to bring his grades up.  And then I told him that I didn't want to be one of his time wasters.

KUDOS to you FWM! You gave him something very few parents are able to. I support you 100%

We told all 3 of our kids, that we would pay for undergrad, as long as they made decent grades.

When Conor went to UNT, he was also working full time, and commuting back and forth from home.

I tried to get him to cut his hours at work, but he loved having money. His grades suffered. We got the letter.

And we told him, sorry son. If you want to finish your degree, now it's on you.

So, to be fair...Paul just got told the same thing.

Three years at UNT cost us $60,000.

If he wants to live at home, and commute for his last year, it would only cost 11 or 12 grand for him to finish.

He's way ahead of the kids who had to take out a loan for the whole shot.

I think this will be a good lesson learned, for him.

He might buckled down and study, once he has some skin in the game.

That's our hope.

Oh I wouldn't want to waste my time on him either.
