An employee at Donald Trump's real estate company has come forward to say she inadvertently spliced portions of Michelle Obama's 2008 Democratic National Convention speech into the address Melania Trump delivered Monday night.
Mrs. Trump's speech drew instant criticism when a half-dozen lines were found to be in common with Mrs. Obama's from eight years ago.
Meredith McIver, an in-house staff writer at the Trump Organization and former ballet dancer, released a statement Wednesday saying she wrote down portions of the Obama speech – with Mrs. Trump reading them to her over the phone – and included them later in the draft she presented to Melania.
'I did not check Mrs. Obama's speeches. This was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama,' she wrote. 'No harm was meant.'

Admission: Meredith McIver (left) in her office in Trump Tower, Manhattan, went public on Wednesday to say she was responsible for the plagiarism storm

Admission: Meredith McIver's letter revealing her role in the plagiarism firestorm - and Donald Trump's refusal to accept her resignation

Forgiveness: Donald Trump, seen with Melania as he introduced her Monday night speech to the RNC, said Meredith McIver should not be punished for her error, which she said was inadvertent
Speeches are not the important thing in this election.
Actions are.

Yes, i am surprised he didn't fire her. I think that it shows a side of him I think. That maybe he doesn't get too bogged down with nonsense. However, I think that if this person INTENTIONALLY did that to Melania, then she is an pretty rotten person. If unintentional, yes, mistakes do happen. Either way, it's just a 5 min speech of no consequence.

Trump has a lot of women in very high roles in his companies that have worked for him for decades.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
You're saying Trump isn't a chauvinistic pig that hates hates women?
AND that he has a level head for business?
Wow!

I'm not hating on Trump because I am a supporter but this is politics. She was a pawn that took the hit for the speech. He didn't fire her because he was using her & it would make him look so much better than if he fired her. Same way any other candidate would have handled it. Except maybe Hilary who would try lying her way out of the plagiarism.

I'm surprised that Trump is the one who handled this. I mean it was Melania's speech and she said she worked on it for 6 months.
I would have liked to have seen Melania handle this situation, not Donald.

She's not running for office. She's a campaigner. It's his job to handle his staff, not hers...

She is a potential first lady. I'd like to see her take care of her own issues and show a little bit of fortitude or control over her "own words".
I guess I'm just old fashioned. I don't expect the first lady to be a politician. Her job is to support her husband with grace and class. That's all I care about...

Yes, well I guess he will just continue to take care of her and whatever issues may arise.

She's sure pretty though.
There is something we can agree on. Imagine if her and your PM had babies...

Actually I've seen two really good looking people make some ugly babies. Likewise I've seen two butt ugly people make some beautiful babies.

I understand that the speech writer is a registered Democrat.
Someone should have vetted her out. Trumps crew are dropping the ball.
Or maybe he doesn't have a problem hiring people that have other points of views and assumes they will act as professionals?
I agree, Snerd, can I call you that? I find it amusing. Anyway, I too think that is how he is. Thing is, any other political candidate, I would immediately jump to the conclusion that he is getting all sorts of inputs from his team, determining the best PR outcome. But with Trump, I don't think he cares about PR, which I think is why he can be trusted. Time will tell of course.

It’s cozy to cling to the idea that the Trump women are really not on board with his agenda; that they will come out swinging one day for family leave and the right to choose. (Trump has said in the past that both Melania and Ivanka Trump will serve as advocates for women’s health on the campaign trail, which has yet to happen). The prevailing idea that Mrs. Trump is just a puppet being manipulated by the campaign is certainly problematic for her husband’s presidential bid: is she a fembot who is fed stolen words and thrust before the country on live television, or a would-be First Lady? But for as long as Melania is standing by her husband’s side, in the glare of the spotlight, she’s responsible for her words.
I sort of agree with the above. That is how it appears, that is why I would have liked Melania to have dealt with this issue herself, it was her speech.
Are you going to address Hillary's 22 Scandals on that thread? Just wondering.
Are you going to stop trolling me?
Lets keep this thread on topic. eh?
Excuse me? You are trolling nonstop on the RNC thread with your nonsense. But, it's relevant. You keep going on about the supposed sins of Melania but refuse to look at Hillary's long, long Encyclopedia Brittanica of lies and misdeeds.

How is it possible that you cannot address one situation at a time. You know I am right about Melania and the fact that she had no voice after the scandal broke. So you change the subject to Hillary? Lame, even for you.
Can you please just not assume that I am in love with Hillary simply because I posted an opinion about Melania and how I would have liked to have seen her deal with an issue directly related to " her own words"? That is some sort of twisted logic imo.
