TOPIC: According to a Federal Judge, black people are too stupid to actually read the ballot and cast a vote for the candidate
We can't expect blacks to know the names of the people they're voting for.
Recently, Michigan lawmakers passed a measure that would have eliminated the option to vote a straight ticket. The law would have brought the mitten in line with 39 other states that already eliminated straight-party voting. Basically, under the new system, you’d have to votefor someone, instead of just checking the "R" or "D."
Well, we have news for you people who live in those 39 other, ugly, vile, states. You're a bunch of racists! Fortunately for Michigan, a judge understands how hateful you are, and has blocked the state's effort to join your foul ranks.
A judge on Thursday blocked Michigan's new ban on straight-party voting, saying it's a direct strike on the rights of blacks in big cities who tend to vote for Democrats with a single mark on the ballot.
U.S. District Judge Gershwin Drain signed an injunction, a week after hearing arguments. He says the law would place a "disproportionate burden" on blacks in the fall election, the first election that would be affected.
"African-Americans are much more likely to vote Democrat than other ethnic groups, and many feel this is largely due to racially charged political stances taken by Republicans on the local, state and national level since the post-World War II era," the judge said.
If you're thinking that this is a painfully transparent effort to ensure that blacks don't leave the Democrat-voter reservation, you get a kewpie doll, a cigar, and a stuffed animal for the little lady. You get bonus points if you also realize that the judge’s decision represents the actual racism. Specifically, it's the "soft bigotry of low expectations."
Someone should ask this judge precisely why he feels this places a disproportionate burden on blacks. Every single person in the state - black, white, or other - would be subject to the same regulations. The AP even makes the point that Michigan has counties and cities that tend to use straight ticket voting in support of Republicans. It sounds like he's actually trying to argue that blacks - disproportionately - lack the ability to make informed decisions.
Basically, he's claiming that blacks are just too stupid to actually read the ballot and cast a vote for the candidate of their choice. They simply can't be expected to look past the "R" and the "D." Remembering a candidate's name is really hard, and expecting them to do so could disenfranchise a whole swath of people the DNC likes to take for granted!
If you believe they're smart enough to know who they're voting for, you're obviously part of the problem.
Oh, by the way. You can forget about all those other states serving as precedent for why this is obviously not racism.
The state attorney general's office, which is defending the law in court, said there's nothing illegal because no one would be denied access to voting. Michigan joined 40 other states with bans.
"The behaviors of other states are irrelevant to the question of constitutionality," Drain said.

wow, that is the craziest spin I have seen yet, and that is saying something.
The reason the republicans want to stop straight party voting is pretty simple.
Voters would have to fill in the oval in front of every name for sometimes dozens of contests.
This would have three major effects on voting.
It would mean it would take longer.
It would mean fewer votes cast for races like community college and state board of education seats.
And it is almost certain to hurt Democrats -- because their voters usually cast more straight-ticket votes.

As for the OP, I don't like the straight party voting.
I think anyone who uses straight party voting, be it black, white, yellow or red, are not the most intelligent.

Perhaps they should to an IQ test before voting? I wonder if there would be anyone left to vote.
I've long said the voter should be tested on basic government and law.

Boo fvckin hoo. It would take longer: are you saying black people are really that lazy?
Fewer votes cast? : hell yeah. If you dont know who you are voting for and why, they shouldnt get an automatic vote because people are too effin lazy to research. Community College? State BOE? We dont vote on those things here. Try again.
Fill in bubbles? Are those things still around? We push a button on a touch screen. And we can skip voting for whatever race we want to.
You just proved the point that straight party voting is for idiots and low information voters. And those ten to be black
Just like the judge said.

No, I'm saying this is a pretty blatant and shameful way for republicans to try to sell to black people that this is an insult when all it really is, is a way to get less blacks to vote. Pure and simple.

So you agree with the OP.

I mean, if someone has to take the time to actually read a ballot and think about their vote, it'd just be too hard.
Right?
Make it easier.
Voting without thinking!
Sounds like a plan to me!

Not quite. again you only pretend to read the posts?
They vote for the party, who they want for president.
I've read it.
How much do they actually KNOW about the candidate?
By voting straight tickets, they don't even need to know the candidate's names.
That's just stupid.

Anyone voting straight ticket or just black people?
Like I said, a little test before voting would help.

And, you of course are an expert on black people and black voting?
This is something that most voters all do. Black, white, pink, brown, purple, and orange. Can't you tell with the quality of elected officials we have had the past few decades?

No honey, I just call them how I see them.

1. We fill in bubbles with a pen.
2. It would be WAY too expensive to provide EVERY SINGLE polling place with a touch screen.
3. The workers check our names in a PAPER ledger.

Why would actually having to choose individual candidates cause less blacks to vote? Don't you mean it would cause all people to vote less? Talk about racist! Sheesh...

Hmmmm...other states seem to be able to afford it. Even "poor" states like TN and GA.
But never mind that. Are black people not capable of doing either? I mean, their time is more valuable than others? What a crock...

I wonder how much printing paper ballots and buying those little pencils and markers every year costs towns and cities? Lots of those ballots are wasted and have to be tossed because we have to print up enough in case everyone registered comes out to vote. Voting is not conducted just for presidential elections, but are held every year for many reasons, sometimes more than once a year. Tablets/iPADS are extremely cheap now as are computer monitors. Another benefit of electronic voting is the counting of the votes. We can get rid of those ballot counters (the machines that look like a shredder) and those require a lot of maintenance. And there would no longer be a need for paper shredders or the people who have to feed the shredders, no more need for having all the paper hauled away by a trash truck. The savings abound.

Why? Are you saying that democrats are incapable of reading a ballot? Choosing each candidate? Voting on all issues? And why do more Democrats vote straight ticket? Are they unable to think for themselves and pay attention to the people running?
All your reasons support why straight ticket voting should be abolished. It allows too much uninformed voting.

No, I'm saying the current system doesn't work for the republicans so they want to change it. Pretty simple really.
That is the subject. Only you believe that Republicans want to change it because blacks can't handle voting for individuals. YOU are the racist.
Republicans are the ones that are trying to convince Blacks that they current system is wrong because they are too stupid to vote the way REPUBLICANS want them to.
No. They are trying to convince VOTERS that voting individually is a more knowledgeable way to vote. Whether they are black or white. Again, you are the one making it about race.

No, Republicans simply don't get the votes they want so they are trying to change the system in their favour.
That is fine, what isn't fine is trying to convince black people that they are somehow not able to vote "correctly" and the system needs to be changed.
So YOU think blacks are not up to voting for individuals but it's the Republicans who are wrong. By the way. The system IS broken in many peoples opinion.

FACEPALM.
Is that all you got. Pathetic. Isn't that how I'm supposed to answer that crap?

How does requiring people to vote on each individual candidate and issue change who that person can vote for? Please explain how actually having to be informed only benefits the Republican party?

I'll just agree with the black judge that thinks black people are too lazy and stupid to vote like the other 3/5s of the country...
You mean the ones who don't vote Republican? lol
The ones that actually have to cast a vote for a candidate rather than pandering to a bunch of black self appointed "leaders". Cause that's what they are doing. They are being told how to vote. Black power slavery at its finest...
The black judge tells them boys how to vote. And they just respond with yes massa...

And think of all those trees it would save!
And no need for gas or oil to run the equipment, trucks, and machines.
Paper voting is killing the planet!

LOL!!!! That's funny. Proof that democrats are not informed and just check the box their "leaders" tell them too...
She just keeps proving the point. Let her carry on. It gets funnier with each of her posts...let her dig.
