TOPIC: According to a Federal Judge, black people are too stupid to actually read the ballot and cast a vote for the candidate
wow, that is the craziest spin I have seen yet, and that is saying something.
The reason the republicans want to stop straight party voting is pretty simple. Voters would have to fill in the oval in front of every name for sometimes dozens of contests.
This would have three major effects on voting.
It would mean it would take longer. It would mean fewer votes cast for races like community college and state board of education seats. And it is almost certain to hurt Democrats -- because their voters usually cast more straight-ticket votes.
Why? Are you saying that democrats are incapable of reading a ballot? Choosing each candidate? Voting on all issues? And why do more Democrats vote straight ticket? Are they unable to think for themselves and pay attention to the people running?
All your reasons support why straight ticket voting should be abolished. It allows too much uninformed voting.
No, I'm saying the current system doesn't work for the republicans so they want to change it. Pretty simple really.
How does requiring people to vote on each individual candidate and issue change who that person can vote for? Please explain how actually having to be informed only benefits the Republican party?
LOL!!!! That's funny. Proof that democrats are not informed and just check the box their "leaders" tell them too...
She just keeps proving the point. Let her carry on. It gets funnier with each of her posts...let her dig.
Why are you acting like I am not here and saying "she and her". Its almost like you are attempting to belittle me. Gosh you'd never do that right?
The fact is, and I know you won't admit it, the system as it is does not work for the republicans in this situation and this entire made up issue of blacks being too stupid is a thinly veiled, pathetic attempt to have people agree to change the system.
If you want to change the system do it the proper way, not by insulting peoples intelligence.

The black judge is the one that said it...I'm just agreeing with him...
A judge on Thursday blocked Michigan’s new ban on straight-party voting, saying it’s a direct strike on the rights of blacks in big cities who tend to vote for Democrats with a single mark on the ballot.
Show me where he said Blacks are too stupid! He didn't.

Show me where he said Blacks are too stupid! He didn't.
He says the law would place a "disproportionate burden" on blacks in the fall election, the first election that would be affected.
Those poor black people.

We complete a ballot and put it into a machine where it is electronically counted.
That's the type of machine I mentioned in my post. We have them too. There would be no further need for them if we used monitors.
A lot of places won't use the computer touch screens because their voters don't trust them. Voters want to see on paper who they cast their vote for. When my county used the computer voting system there were scores of complaints about it appearing a wrong vote was cast for people.
government can't win. Use paper and people complain. Upgrade and people complain. That's why lots of places just kept doing whatever they had been doing.

He's treating them like incompetent children. Why would a ballot be harder to fill out for a Democrat than a Repblican?

No, I'm saying this is a pretty blatant and shameful way for republicans to try to sell to black people that this is an insult when all it really is, is a way to get less blacks to vote. Pure and simple.
So you agree with the OP.
I do not understand the thinking behind this? Asking anyone who votes to actually VOTE, to pick the person they are voting for as opposed to picking one party....is a way to get less black people to vote????
Makes no sense as anyone voting should be aware of WHO they are voting for. blatant and shameless???? by expecting people to actually KNOW who they are voting for????
now that makes NO sense at all!

No. It's a Republican conspiracy to get black people to stop voting. See if they make everyone vote individually the theory goes that black people, who generally vote Democrat, will get confused and actually vote for a Republican. Or it's a figment of apples imagination that black people are not smart enough to vote that way. Or is it Democrats that are not smart enough to vote that way. I get confused because she keeps saying that's not what she's saying. Does that help...lol

No. They are trying to convince VOTERS that voting individually is a more knowledgeable way to vote. Whether they are black or white. Again, you are the one making it about race.
No, Republicans simply don't get the votes they want so they are trying to change the system in their favour.
That is fine, what isn't fine is trying to convince black people that they are somehow not able to vote "correctly" and the system needs to be changed.
The system works.
How??? as I would think if a black person was voting for a democrat president candidate, they would STILL vote for that same democrat president candidate even if it entailed coloring in a bubble or whoever, and not just making one choice....so how would that affect the Republican candidate? the person IS still voting for the person they want.
twist as you want it still makes no sense,. EVERYONE voting should know who they are voting for. and vote accordingly

And you know what? The ballots still put a (D) or an (R) after the names. It's really not rocket science. But, according to this judge - Democrats are too stupid to be able to handle it.

Our ballots are clearly labeled with the person's name, party, and office they are running for. I don't think it is wrong to force people to read the dang ballot.
DETROIT, July 21 (UPI) -- A federal judge on Thursday blocked a new Michigan law that bars straight-ticket voting -- primarily over the concern that it unfairly impacts black voters in the state.
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed the law in January. Under the code, no voters would be allowed to walk into a voting booth and make only one punch to vote for the candidates of their preferred party.

So again, black people are too stupid to actually vote. Got it.

The judge based at least part of his ruling on a recent U.S. Census Bureau report that found a correlation between straight-party voting and Michigan's black population. The report indicated that most of the state's straight-party voters are black.

I'll say it again. He's saying blacks are too stupid to vote outside party lines...
And what if they couldn't? Would they just not vote? Too lazy to actually read a ballot.
You can't make this schitt up...lol!

But HOW does it make voting more difficult for them than for others? You just keep saying it is unfair to them. If they have to vote the same way as everyone else and they simply have to vote per person instead of all at once, how is that unfair or otherwise more difficult?

If a certain group of people in a certain area have always voted a certain way, then that way is changed, yes people get upset.
Imagine if this was a group of older people? Would you still be so adamant that the way the vote is recorded should be changed, despite the fact that you know it will inhibit older people from voting?

Yes. Things change for a reason. And the reason here is more informed voting. Which is not a bad thing.
I seem to remember a pretty strong argument from democrats about changing the definition of marriage and just "the way it has always been" not being a good enough reason.

Ok. I swear you heard that before I said it. It seems to be ramping up for something and that would explain the childishness.

I have a funny feeling that if the changes to more informed voting meant that republicans would lose votes, you would not be on this particular bandwagon.
It is all so hypocritical. (not you, the situation)

You still haven't explained why Dems will lose votes. What is it about this that means blacks will stop voting? What do YOU think the reason is that they would stop voting?

You would be absolutely wrong. I still want to know why you are assuming Democrats will lose votes. Are they too stupid to read the ballot? Because that is what you and this judge seem to be saying?
And do not presume to know what I think about things or would think.
