Good morning, Good Geeks!

I'm off for my walk, before it gets too hot.

And watching The Tour.

I'm not sure what else we'll be up to today.

Have a good weekend, everyone!smile

I just plan to relax today. DH will take the boys to the library to return their books, clean the pool filter, then we can hang out by the pool. Church later then dinner.

Good morning! Surprise indeed! First, I overslept and just as I hit the potty I can hear the trucks pulling in to cut my tree down. Due to the location of the tree they have to take the back fence down and go through the neighbor's back yard. I'm sure they liked their 7:30 surprise too. Now we are rushing to get ready to head off to the parade.

Tree removal stresses me out. Every time, they end up damaging a plant or fence.

Grr, sideways! That's about 15 feet up on a 40 foot tree!

My tree guy was saying that when people top their trees too far down, they will grow back, but unless they continue to top them, lower and lower, they will develop rot.

this is true.  After I had 26 trees taken down and the stumps ground, I still had to inject tree root killing poison into the roots because little sapplings were popping up everywhere.  That went on for 3 years after the trees came down.

Morning! Hot and humid today!

We are shopping for a new lawn mower today. The one we had bit the dust. Too much to repair it.

Out to breakfast first. Shopping takes energy. I am ready, waiting on DH.

I am at work and just sorted a big bag of M&M's by color.

Guess which of the 5 colors (not including brown) won? I was surprised.

I took my walk.

Did some weeding and watering.

Now I need to get a shower, and play chase Jeep for Wayne and Mere.

We'll meet them at Blue Mesa for lunch at 11:30.

Hopefully, I can have a lazy afternoon.smile

Did my errands and took the dog for a walk and I am drenched. I am not going to go outside again today. I need to grab a friend and go to the movies later, perfect movie day since it is so hot.

Afternoon.

It's hot everywhere.

We had three trees cut down and one that fell.

We pulled the stumps and brought in soil.

It was easier to do that here.

Happy Saturday, ya'll.

It's supposed to be "extremely hot" here the next few days. I'm always amused when the weather gets characterized as "extremely hot" since this is the desert and it's normal for it to be well into the 100s.

Watching Tiny Houses, and it seems every time some one comments about how small the appliances are.

Crazy.

Those things are no more than a pull along camper but pricier.  I have to say, it would be great to have one, use as a guest house at home and as a vacation home.

If I were younger, capable, and didn't have kids, I could see myself having some of them.

But I grew up in a small house.

I love the small houses.  Not for me personally but I really believe they have their place for some.  Like for an elderly parent that wants to remain independent but needs to be checked on.  Or a handicapped adult that wants the same thing.  They are a great way to give freedom to those people, and their caregivers, while still giving everyone peace of mind.

I found a floor plan for a 2 br, 2 bath house I'd love to have.

I think the big thing about small houses is the functionality of space.

And organization.

So these are the before and after pics of the trunk. DD wanted a bit of a distressed look. The is a solid cedar Lane chest with maple veneer on the outside. My suggestion is never undertake a job refinishing something with veneers, nearly impossible to strip. Anyway, we are pleased with the outcome.

Too bad her bedroom is such a mess, the distressed part color matches her bedroom set we just bought.  It does look good.  The towel underneath it will be gone once I find an area rug I like.

I have spent the past couple of months stewing in the feels and really couldn't figure out why. I'm NOT a hot weather person and I thought I was having some sort of super late mid-life crisis regarding my marriage. Well, someone suggested that I might try going without alcohol for a while and see if that helped. I must say, while I do miss my cabernet, I feel amazing. No more sadness or irritability AND I dropped 8 lbs! Today I was invited to a friend's house on the lake for a swim, before the crazy thunderstorm rolled into town, and they were making margaritas. I declined, because I didn't want to mess with my happy juju. Everyone thought I was insane (I'm usually the one having three or four drinks and laughing my head off). I wasn't sure what to say so I just told everyone I was avoiding alcohol during the heat because it gave me headaches and made me fat. Seemed legit and they bought it. So that was my big Saturday... oh and then dinner with my cute little family. My daughter cooked for us with her new crock pot and it was awesome. It's so wild how much you can make in one of those things! The rain has ended and my wife wants to go out for a walk before the mosquitoes come out. Barefoot walking on wet grass with my love. awwawwaww

That sounds like one fantastic day!  Good for you the alcohol (as I sit here sipping a cab).  I really need some tasty crock pot recipes, and not the stews or whole chicken recipes, but something to knock the socks off!  What did your DD cook?

Thanks everyone.  I think the most thing I like about it was doing such a project with DD.  She really wanted the trunk in her room, it had just been sitting in the garage all these years.  I let her pick out the color and hardware and had her sanding, staining, and even doing the poly coats.  I also showed her that in between coats you have to sand with a fine sandpaper to get that store bought smoothness.  She was impressed especially since I let her use my power tool, aka the power sander.

She made a pot roast with some veggies. She set it all up this morning and it cooked all day. The house smells really good, I must say. I think I might go get one of these things for the house. She had specifically requested one for her birthday (which was this past week). She's moving into an apartment with some friends, at college, for her junior and senior years. They are nursing students and are gone all day. She wanted to be able to set up dinner in a crock pot so it would be ready to share in the evening, after they got home from clinical. It came with a little booklet and there were a few recipes in it. She got the pot roast recipe online, though. Tomorrow, she wants to make pulled pork. I'm very excited about her gift (haha). biggrin

I have decided I want to try to wear heels again. So I'm pacing the basement in 3" heels hoping to retrain my foot to bend again. Hope it works, there are so many cute shoes out there.

I have some 2" ones too. However, I can't wear those either. i had foot surgery a few years ago, ever since, my foot/toes don't really bend like they used to. Making wearing heels difficult. I'm hoping if I ease back into them, it will loosen up my muscles/tendons and allow me to wear them again.

and no video, I actually am very adept at walking in heels, my foot just screams after not too long. I made it about 15 minutes before I had to take them off.

Went to get tacos this morning, and found that there was all sorts of yellow "crime scene" tape still up at the blinking light. I knew that AirLife had been around last night, but wasn't aware that the accident was so close. We (our community) have been begging for a full stop light for years, not just a blinking light. There have been 2 (pedestrian) fatalities, and numerous crashes at the intersection, but TexDoT says there is not enough traffic to warrant a light. What do we have to do to convince them?

The next time TexDoT puts up those rubber-hose counters across the streets at the intersection, we're (community) going to pass the word, and we'll all take turns going over and over and over those counters! We'll increase the traffic dramatically!
