Michelle Obama To DNC: ‘Big Men With Guns’ Took Our Daughters To School
Permalink

During her July 25 speech at the Democrat National Convention, Michelle Obama talked about moving into the White House and watching “big men with guns” take their daughters to school.

She said this by describing life after taking up residence in the White House. She recalled her daughters “setting off for their first day at their new school,” adding, “I will never forget that winter morning as I watched our girls–just seven and ten years old–pile into those black SUVs with all those big men with guns.”

The audience responded with a warm applause as Mrs. Obama talked about seeing their faces press against the windows of the vehicles as they drove away.

A network error caused the video download to fail part-way.

The irony is that Americans across the country have wanted the benefit of good guys with guns to protect their kids during the school day too–and especially since the heinous attack in gun-free Sandy Hook Elementary–but that desire has mocked, even derided by leftists who equate arming teachers and/or staff with endangering children.

In fact, a June 2013 Obama administration report on school shootings–published byHuffington Post–actually suggests that the possibility that a school shooting could happen is not reason enough to allow firearms to be carried on campus by teachers and/or staff. The report said: “The possibility of an active shooter situation is not justification for the presence of firearms on campus in the hands of any personnel other than law enforcement officers.”

And Arne Duncan–Education Secretary in Obama’s first term–said the NRA was pressing for armed teachers/staff just as “an opportunity to sell more guns.”

During her July 25 speech at the DNC Mrs. Obama talked about watching “big men with guns” take her girls to school.

I find it extremely stupid when someone seeks a position, fame, or something like that, and then complain about the trappings of it.

You know - hijack here - but if Trump gets elected, he actually is going to have to come down a few pegs in standard of living. I mean, does the White House really compare to his mansions? Have you seen his private jet? He won't be able to jetset as he pleases.

It's going to be a rough adjustment for him, I think.

Have you seen Air Force One and the White House? I think he'll be fine.  They can re-decorate, too.

I remember when she said she hated living in the White House because it was built by slaves. She just likes to whine.

She's one of these people who are just angry.

I don't think she is angry.
Have a little compassion, she never signed up for this, her husband became President.
She couldn't take her girls to school the first day because of security issues. That sucks.
Doesn't every parent want to take their own kids to school? And if they can't should they not talk about it?

Yes, she did.  They made the decision together, and she supported her husband in his bid for the presidency.  Even she has said so.

I meant when they got married and had children. Do you honestly think they sat down and discussed the minutia and the possibility of him being President one day?

I think, at the time they had children, that yes, politics were already well on their radar.

Politics but THE PRESIDENT? Whatever the case, I won't begrudge someone for wanting to be with their children on their first day of school... and saying so.

Apple - it was not their first day of school.  They were 7 and 10.  It was the first day while in the White House, which would have been in January - not even the start of the school year.

I think being the kids of the President has to be pretty sucky, too, but that didn't stop him and Michelle for going for that office.  This was their choice.

Yes of course, but for a mother to lament about missing the first day of school, at a new school for her children, how is that wrong?

I think Gaga's point in posting the article was more to the "big guns" than the lament of a mother.  She has stated repeatedly that the Democrats are hypocrites as they push for gun control while constantly being protected by guns, showing they consider their lives, and the lives of their children, more important.

Yes I suppose you are correct in that it would be Gaga's main point of the thread.

The president gets a free place to live, limo rides, a pretty impressive jet as well. Should everyone have that, would that be "fair"?

BTW...Gun control does not mean taking away your right to protect yourself. It may limit the type of gun but not that can't have a gun.

 Not according to everyone.

And I think the President's use of tax dollars for his and his family's fun needs to be a bit more limited.

Has nothing to do with " fair". Has to do with one's fundamental right to protect their own children.

I guess it is some kind of liberal oblivion.  Oh, i didn't know or i didn't hear about that or I didn't see.  Kind of like Hillary never seems to know anything.  Oh, she didn't know what the DNC was doing.  She didn't know you shouldn't have classified info.  Oh, she didn't see that the email was classified.  When in doubt, pretend not to see.

They haven't taken our guns yet but it's a matter of time before they try. As long as people keep making it about guns instead of crazy or evil people you will never stop the violence.

The guns are not being taken away outright.

But the shaming of gun owners is just the starting point.

Buy back programs have one purpose, removing guns.

And if you are a good citizen, if you really love your family, you'll get rid of the guns you have.

No. No one is outright taking our right to have guns.

Just slowly eroding our right.

I've never once said the content of the emails should be ignored.

I simply showed concern over hacking of gov't emails and who is hacking in order to manipulate politics in the USA.

Most of all I do agree, never put in writing anything that can be held against you., that is common sense one would think.
