Think he will kill his mother and run off to kill Trump?

The dems probably say it's the gun who shot itself at the President, not the man.

I wonder if he's gotten over his crush on Jody Foster?

I know, I know, that was sick, but since she isn't into men..

I can't believe they would ever release someone that shot the president.

Exactly.  Unless they had a reason.   I'll bet if he took a shot at a Dem President they'd throw away the key.  Instead, they release him to his 90 year old mother who lives ...  in Virginia?   Who's next...Manson?

I can't either.  Isn't that some form of treason or equal to?  I would have thought he'd get the death penalty.

Yep. Criminals and whackos have more rights than sane law-abiding citizens, it seems.

What was his sentence?

I thought he got life.

But that doesn't mean till he dies.

When you plead insanity you are only institutionalized until you are deemed not to be a threat. Isn't that correct? So if he got care and is now medicated and has seen a psychologist and is sane and not a threat he is eligible for release. Isn't that correct?

I do not consider the criminally sane to not be a threat if they require medication to avoid killing people.  If he's not in an institution, who is going to monitor him taking his medication?

Once stable and coherent, why can't they then be sentenced for the crime?

Double jeopardy.  They have already been tried and found not guilty by reason of insanity.  You can punish people for what they did when insane.

I just don't think that kind of crazy is ever "cured".

And the little voice in the back of my head tells me someone is banking on that.

I don't know the statistics but a lot of people on mental illness medications stop taking it because they believe they are cured & don't like the side affects.  I'd bet money he stops taking his sooner than later.

He has been out on weekend and week long passes for years and no harm has come of it. I am not saying they should have released him, I am just saying there are decent reasons for having done so. That doesn't mean I agree with them. But they exist.
