Maybe he's a leviathan?

Seriously though, are you really surprised?

This version of the DARK act requires labeling in the form of a QR code that you can scan with your smart phone to see if the item contains GMO's. Previous versions of the act did not have ANY labeling whatsoever. So there was some movement in the direction that both you and I want. But I would have preferred just being able to read the label and not having to use my phone.

Movement that requires owning a smartphone and using cell data to find out instead of just LABELING IT.  How frickin' hard is that? Either it contains GMOs or it does not.  This law discriminates against the elderly and the poor.

It also has terms in it that can undermine the integrity of organic labeling.

The integrity of organic labeling has been going down the tubes for years. It is virtually meaningless as it is. You can have a certified organic farm and grow certified organic produce and when tested that produce can have pesticides in it and it's still certified organic. The pesticides typically blow over from a neighboring farm but if YOU didn't put them on its still organic.

They want to hide where our food comes from and how it is processed and on and on.

The best thing to do is grow your own.

I know everyone cant.

But if you start looking, you can find organic farmers markets.

Find some vends you trust and you'll get the produce and meat you want.

Yes.  We do that.  But, really do you know where supposedly local meat comes from?  You don't always.  They may be buying it wholesale from who knows where.    Some will claim it is all "local" but you don't know that for sure.

You have to know the person you are buying the cattle from.

You go pick out and buy the animal, pay for it to be slaughtered and butchered and then store it.

Most people will split a cow with another family.

Side of beef and a couple hogs will usually last a year.

You get chickens as you need them.

A good, local butcher can usually put you in touch with the right people.

When I say local, I don't mean the guy at the Piggy Wiggly.

I'm talking about the independent butcher.

Well, that's you.  I don't want to buy a whole or even half a cow.

It's actually cheaper in the long run.

And I didn't say you had to do anything.

I explained how to go about it.

And if you have a good, local butcher, they buy from the people in your area.

I know.  There are people here who do that.  I just don't like meat that has been frozen for a long time.  And, i would forget to get it out when i wanted it so that requires more planning, lol.

If sealed properly, it's just as good a year or more after being put in.

A deep freezer and a good root cellar can sustain a family rather nicely.

We don't have local butchers.

I remember when buying meat from an entire cow (and splitting it with another family) was popular in the 70's. I think we did it 3 ways, with two other families. It was much cheaper.

And I agree that this law discriminates against the elderly. I've said it before and I'll say it again. O's mission has been to weed out the elderly. It's obvious in his healthcare plan and the impact it has had on the elderly. This just perpetuates his goal. And isn't there a link between GMOs and Alzheimers? I seem to remember something about that.

Actually I believe he was for the more transparent labeling but this is the compromise that was made by the senators that are in the pockets of big ag and big food.

He and Michelle caved to the lobbyists.  She did a speech on behalf of GMO's, too, after being against them.  Liars that can be bought.

If  anyone suggests that requiring  a  smart phone is a problem,

look aroound any school. Most of the kids over 10 have them.

spouse's smart phone costs $10 per month.

TracFone is $15 per month.

And having to use your data to discover what is in your food?

I think requiring a smart phone for things in the future will become more and more common.
