Embarrassing, need acne help

So I've always had a less-than-perfect complexion, particularly on my back, but lately it's getting worse and I'm breaking out nonstop! It may be a side effect of my medication, but does anyone here have ideas or know of soaps or something to help? My back is starting to look like a connect the dots cry my last resort is to see a dermatologist.

Look up the side effects of the medication, or discuss it with your Pharmacist.

Sorry ed, I worded that weird, it is a side effect for sure, but I've been on this medication for almost ten years with no issue so I'm not sure if I'm just now starting to react or if it's unrelated. Either way I don't know what to do about it!

My grandmother used to treat acne with apple cider vinegar. But that was "dirty skin" or "too much candy" acne, not "medication side-effect" acne, so I'm not sure if that would help in your situation. Couldn't hurt to try though.

On a cotton ball or rag, liberally douse it with apple cider vinegar (enough of it so that if you squeeze it, vinegar comes out), then wash gently over the affected area. Repeat as necessary until no contaminants can be seen on the rag or cotton.

Yes, you can develop a reaction to a med.

With it being on your back, have you changed detergents or any other laundry product? Or maybe you need to change.

Is there something at work that could be causing it?

Has there been a dietary change?

Has your stress level increased?

If it's on your back- it could be your detergent. What kind do you use? Consider switching to All free and clear and see if that helps.

I also suspect laundry detergent or possible hives from stress. Do they itch?

I use witch hazel on bug bites and on my face to lighten spots. It clears up mosquito bites within a day or two. Vinegar is good, too.

Mom likes using that. The All.

I don't like it.

Nothing smells clean to me when it's been used.

I like Arm and Hammer with oxyclean.

We have to use it on DD12's clothes.  Nothing else.  When I used Tide and Cheer, she would break out in a rash and get boils.  I tried Tide free and clear, and she still got boils.  The doctor said All free and Clear, and that's what we use - I do add Oxyclean to the wash sometimes, when needed and that doesn't seem to bother her.  I even order All free and clear dryer sheets from Amazon.

Right now we're having issues finding a face wash, everything makes her skin get red and bumpy.  And she's entering puberty, so it's all changing.  I have sensitive skin, and react to certain soaps and lotions, my FIL has extremely sensitive skin.  I think she inherited from both of us and got double whammied.

I used to use arm and hammer with oxy clean and now I just use oxy clean. I'll have to try the All.

My stress level is always through the roof but maybe a little more so lately.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I always used Ivory soap bars on my face and bonnie bell astringent. But I had oily skin. Problem was, I stripped the oils off too much and not enough sebum which caused irritation and pimples. As I got older, I started using Simple facial scrub, witch hazel, and moisturizer and haven't had any pimples since.

Everyone's skin is different and you just need to find what works for you.

When our kids had mild acne, our doc recommended washing with Cetaphil, instead of soap.

It's very gentle, won't clog your pores, or irritate your skin.

I would try that first, and if it doesn't help, see your doctor.

I'm all for demtologists.

Caitlyn needed one and she was a God send taking care of Caitlyn's eczema.

Thankfully we never had to deal with acne.

Caitlyn used Ivory soap and water, the rest of us, Dial soap and water.

Jesse needed some Stridex for a few months.

But if someone is having breakouts they can't control, then absolutely go to a demtologist.

Vette - you might also want to try the Phisoderm anti-blemish body wash.

LIke FWM said- use Cetaphil, you can get it at the grocery store for under $10. The gentle cleanser works great all over or they also have one specific for face wash that I used when I got acne for the first time in my life in my early twenties and it cleared right up.

Just remembered something.

My brother was having breakouts on his back and it made its way up to his head.

He went to a doctor, they sent him to a demtologist and it wasn't regular acne, it was an infection.

They gave him a wash to use and an antibiotic.

He was also told to treat his mattress or get a new one.

Brother sprayed his mattress down with lysol and let it dry, then he put a mattress cover over it.

After two weeks he had a noticeable difference, after a month it was completely cleared up and he has had a problem since.

Two of my girls experienced this and they tried all kinds of medications, the free and clear detergent, creams, sulfur masks, etc. Ultimately, what cleared them both up was going dairy free. It took about two weeks to see a difference but it cleared up their body and facial acne, completely. The trick was giving up all dairy, though, not just cutting back. Best of luck to you!

Oh, and for what it's worth, one of them had allergies that cleared up when she went dairy free as well. Sadly, for them, it means no more lattes, chocolate, cheese, or butter. But we have substitutes that have been acceptable enough.

I am taking Doxicycline for the acne/rash due to chemo. I wonder if it would help you?
