So, what upgrades that people traditionally like and want are you just not a fan of?
I hate jacuzzi bathtubs. I'm annoyed b/c both of the big bathtubs in my house are jacuzzi tubs. I'd prefer regular garden tubs or claw foot tubs. The jets in the jacuzzi one just constantly need to be cleaned, and I feel I have to clean them every time I want to take a bath.
I'm also not a huge fan of granite - it has to be sealed and cared for, I'd prefer quartz.

We have jacuzzi and granite. I use seal on the granite once a year. If I remember. I think I would like quartz equally as well.
I don't really use my jacuzzi tub much. Even though it's not often used, I run bleach & dishwasher detergent in it once or twice a year or else it does start to smell. But the upkeep is really minimal for us.
We are currently obtaining bids for a laundry room/mudroom/fireplace remodel. Our LG units are stackable. I would be interested to hear from someone who has stacked them as to whether they like them stacked or not. I think it would save a lot of room, allowing for more cabinets, but wonder if they would be too high.
But they don't look practical and take up space and possibly make cleaning around them difficult.

Oh, and we have those floor to almost ceiling glass shower enclosures and doors. I wished we had gone with a doorless design. The glass requires daily drying and doesn't allow for much air circulation so the shower needs to be dried daily to prevent mildew from forming on the grout under the caulk.

I'm assuming front loaders? I wouldn't want them stacked unless absolutely necessary. I would actually prefer to have a countertop installed over them for folding clothes, and then hanging rods, shelves or cabinets above.
This is probably my dream:
For a smaller space, I like this:
And my favorite:

Swoon for the laundry rooms. I have the pedestals under mine. One stores old ratty towels for car washing or whatever cleanups. The other has my dryer sheets, the Tide washer cleaner & various samples of laundry supplies. It is only about half full.

This is good to know.
We are thinking of taking out the claw foot tub and putting in a shower upstairs.

Those are beautiful. However......we are bumping out into our garage. We want to still be able to park both cars in the garage. So....if the washer/dryer are side-by-side, there will be no room for any type of cabinet space on the side and I really, really, really need some storage space. Cabinets over the washer/dryer would also be nice, too. And we can do a drop down counter on one wall for folding. I don't need a dryer rack, I have one that fits in my dryer for things that need to be dried flat and I rarely "drip dry" clothes, I send them out.
Anyway, stacking them would give me more room, but I wonder how convenient it would be to have the dryer up high.

We currently have the pedestals as well. They aren't used because our laundry detergent bottles are too high and don't fit and I don't use dryer sheets. I never think to put anything else in them, so that's my fault.

If possible, I'd want the washer up high. Wet clothes would be heavy, and lifting them up wet would get tiresome, whereas it would be easier to pull them down and shove them in the dryer. I don't know if you can do that, though.

I don't like granite either. There is more work to it than people realize. When I remodeled kitchens, we didn't sell granite. And the customers would always want it. I explained about sealing it and I heard from every one of them "you don't have to seal it ever, the sales guy said they have a special seal you NEVER have to redo." Sure, ok. Whatever.
I like Corian or Quartz. I also realize I'm most likely going to lose this battle.
I don't see the point in more than one shower head.
And a steam shower? Every time I shower, it steams, don't see the point of a "steam shower.

Lily reminded me ..... Rainfall shower heads. I need some pressure to rinse my hair. And the gentle rain doesn't cut it
I've never been in a rainfall shower. I didn't realize they didn't have pressure. I thought they were just oversized.
I don't know where the original owners of my house got the shower head in my master but it rocks. It can knock the wind out of you it has so much pressure. I love it because I need that pressure to get the conditioner our of my hair.

They are bigger and have almost no pressure. The Boy has one, he loves it. I've avoided having to give an opinion lol

Yeah, me, too.
I hated mom and dad's shower head, mine is awesome.
And it was only $15 at Walmart.

Hmmmm....we have granite. I never knew you had to seal it, so it's never been done. I guess I need to look into that...
All the showerheads are low pressure now. The EPA mandates that. But how they stop the pressure is with a little ball and the base of the head. We just removed it. The kids actually take showers when they come over because it's the best shower around...

Maybe that is what was done to mine because it has some serious pressure.
moving in to kitchen with corian, Leaving formica kitchen New stacked washer dryer, leaving commercial sized laundry room. Will gain personal laundry sink and laundry storage area.
not sure about the shower heads, definitely not rainfall. will need to add shower heads on the extension, so handheld shower heads. Cant live without them.
New fridge does not have an ice maker. It can be added. I covet an icemaker, have not had one in 15 years.

Possibly. I can't wash my hair ANYWHERE else. Not enough pressure to get out the soap. But tomorrow I've rescheduled my appt, so I'm having someone else do it! HEAVEN!!!!!!

I have a rainfall shower head and it's fine. I can control the pressure, and don't need to turn it on all the way to get good pressure. But I also have a hand-held which I use, too. I love it. It is great to rinse my nether region.
Unfortunately, LL, the washer needs to be on the bottom. Something to think about though, lifting wet clothes.

Wet clothes in high efficiency washers Re not soaked or heavy. Most of the water is extracted by the washer

I'd die without my ice makers. I have two & usually have to refill my one in the kitchen with ice from the second one at least once a week. I fill my glass completely with ice & then pour my drink in around it.
I think it was Oh4 who said her sister has an awesome ice maker that makes the cool kind like Sonic has. I covet that one.

We are debating the same thing FNW. Our laundry room is small and it is also the mudroom coming in from the garage and we turned the closet in there into a pantry before kids- and now we have no where to hang coats/backpacks and put hats, gloves and scarves. We do have the pedestals but they are really awkward and are just storing random stuff. We are debating getting rid of those and building a counter top over them and adding cabinets above, but that doesn't solve where to put coats and stuff, so we also are thinking about stacking them and then we could put coat hooks on the open side.
ETA: I know the difference between their and there..

Right now we have a coat rack next to the fireplace but it gets so bogged down in winter and looks cluttered. Plus, since we are a shoe-free home, there's the basket of shoes in front of the rack, adding to the clutter.

Same problem. We have and over the door coat hanger, but it gets so much on it that it's hard to open the door, plus DH hates how it marks up the top of the door. We keep our shoes in a basket on the floor in the closet/pantry, and that works well.
Our washer/dryer is currently in the "pantry" in the kitchen. We want to wall that off, bump out the whole side into the garage a couple feet (it already extends a couple feet so we'd only need a couple more). This would create a short "hallway" when you come in from the garage, and allow for a doorway into the laundry room. Make that a mudroom, too, and across the hallway, put in a pantry/closet. That's what we want anyway, and now we are talking with contractors to see if it's doable.
I have a very unique trunk I found in a shop in Kansas. It is taller than it is wide. Sort of shaped like a diamond not in a setting is the best I can describe it. Anyway, I have it near the front door & that is where my shoes go. Or should go. There are a few on the floor around it because, you know, it is so hard to bend down, pick them up & deposit them in the trunk.

For the girls, they have a little "wing" where you go through a doorway and there is a little hall with doors to their rooms and their bathroom as well as their linen closet, and the tiniest, most useless coat closet (I'm using it as a broom closet instead, because that is the size it is). So, I installed a hook rail in the hallway there. It's still close to the front door, but out of sight of the main room, and easy for them to use.

When I bought my front loaders the display was stacked. I could just barely reach the controls for the dryer. I'm sure you are a little taller than me. I'd love to stack mine, it would leave enough space for an upright freezer.
Yeah, I want to go to the store and see how they are stacked...I did measure and they seem easily reachable for me. The boys would need a step-stool to reach the dryer controls, but that wouldn't be for long, they're getting tall.

Your boys do their own laundry?
I think it's great that the boys are doing their own laundry. Yay, FNW!
You now join me in getting to receive the "mean mom" award. LOVE IT!
I had a step stool by the washer for our kids. Yup, they were five when I started teaching them to wash their clothes.

They put their wet suits and towels in the dryer. They can't quite carry/pour the laundry detergent yet, because we buy a HUGE size from BJ's. But yeah, they know what settings to use, time, etc., and do the dryer themselves. I also have a hamper in there that has a divider and they throw their clothes in, separated out by light/dark.
Because of the tightness of the area currently, a step stool would be more trouble than it's worth otherwise I'd leave one out for them to do the washing, too.
THey know how to load a dishwasher, too, and are required to clear the table after they eat. They don't always load, because I like the rinse the plates first.

It's not my house so I don't care but I saw something I don't like on one of the houses in the neighborhood near our complex. They have a fence between the yard and the walkway to the front door. If they were hanging out in their yard, they'd have to walk all the way around the fence to get into their house. I wouldn't like the inconvenience.
Stainless Steel appliances. What's with the love for Stainless Steel? It shows fingerprints like a son-of-a-youknowwhat. I like the old fashioned white or black vinyl covered or matte painted things.
I just checked out my new stacked w/d and I CAN reach everything, luckily.
I have a window in the laundry room, adjacent to the kitchen......
Other resident tell me the vent system in the kitchen is not great, I may need to put an actual vent fanin the laundry room when it is winter and heavy cooking time. (He cooks)

I agree. I've never been a fan of stainless steel.
Hard wood floors. Some maybe. But not the whole house. In my family room I want nice soft carpet I can sit on.
