 I agree. I've never been a fan of stainless steel. 

Hard wood floors. Some maybe. But not the whole house. In my family room I want nice soft carpet I can sit on. 

 Agreed. I actually don't like the look of stainless steel appliances. I prefer the black.

Stainless doesn't bother me, really.

But I prefer the retro look or even hidden appliances.

I have white corian sink & I like it ok. The one I chose for my previous house was one large sink & I loved it. This one is split with a small side & larger side. The garbage disposal is on the small side which I think makes zero sense. It's been 10 years & I'm used to it now. I just would not have chosen a split sink.

Mine is split, too, same set-up. I don't like it much. Much more prefer one big sink. At the time we did the remodel, DH was doing the dishes and he liked the smaller sink.
