The witchy neighbor at the start of the movie was right. Even though she was a witch, Toto was loose and bit her. Dorothy letting it happen and doing nothing made her a bad dog owner.

Grandpa Joe is a lazy good for nothing, concerned only for himself who let his daughter in law work her fingers to the bone to support them all, while still spending money on tobacco, and miraculously being able to get out of bed and walk around just fine as soon as something good happened.

This should be the golden age of movies. Great sets. Computers. Special effects. Millions of great stories to choose from. Yet, they continue to make one tired stupid remake or rehash the same old plots over and over and over ad nauseaum gag me with a spoon i am so sick of it!
Fast 7 was released in 2015. It's a great addition to the family.

Some remakes are better than the originals.
Some are just as good.
True Grit was good. We have both original and remake.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was not the same as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
The original Death Race was campy and stupid. But the remake has spawned 5 sequels.
Amityville Horror was good but the remake was better.
Those are just a few.

Here's the thing. If the movie was great, why remake it? Like why remake Gone With the Wind? If the movie was a stinker, then why remake it because it sucked? Either way, it is a waste of my time.
some films ( mostly classics ) were perfectly made the first time--perfectly cast, perfectly directed, perfectly filmed--they have a chemistry, a synergy that can never be duplicated, never be " made again "--they resonated so deeply, so clearly that to even attempt to remake them verges on heresy, on sheer insult to the art form--we own about three thousand films now and other than groups like afi 100, etc. we've selected them precisely because they were perfectly made the FIRST time--they aren't just films, or entertainment--they're works of art

How about the Beauty and the Beast one? A child was cursed to be a monster because he wouldn't let a stranger (who looked like a scary witch) inside his house.

Yep.

Little Mermaid - defiant daughter disobeys her father, basically sells her soul to the devil, and then runs off to be with a boy she doesn't even know. She's only 16.

I have said this about LM for years!! People think I am crazy - and then they think about it and realize it's true. I also say that she changes who she is just to be with a boy. She changes her identity and leaves her family for some boy who can't even remember if she is the girl he likes or not. Why should we show this movie to our daughters?!

Yep.
And Belle is forced into a relationship with a man who treats her like crap. She gets a major case of Stockholm syndrome and we are supposed to be ok with it? She is in an abusive relationship and the advice given to her is give him a chance. Ummmm...nope.

If you don't care what images and example your children see that's fine. But I wouldn't let my girls watch those movies without asking them some questions and having some conversations about the examples set.
When we watched Aladdin, I asked DD where she thought the mother was. She said "at work. Look at that house. Someone has to pay for it!"

Nah. I don't care.
They liked Pumpkinhead and Children of the Corn, movies like that.
Think they are scarred for life?

A lot of the classic Disney movies start out with the mother being killed. A bunch of times right in front of their child. I always found that strange for family movies.

The Disney versions are so watered down, it's laughable.
