Half day of school here. Twice the running.

And I smell rain.

Have a good day!

I know I'm crazy.

I have to be crazy.

I am entertaining the idea of getting another bird.

Crazy, right?

I just called the Brooklyn, NY school department. Seems my 12th grader skipped school yesterday! LOL Told them to take me off the robo-call list.

You're not old enough to have a 12th grader and you drink too much to be driving to NY to pick her up...lol

 None, now.

I had one 22 years ago.

I miss her.

lily,

We would love another bird but we will not because of DIL. Kidney patients should not be around birds because of bacteria in their droppings. Eventually, we will get a furry critter but not a cat. Probably a dog or a ferret.

 Aww... I have heard that.

What bird did you have?

I had a parakeet. When I got him, the feathers on his head lacked striping and stood straight up. I called him Rod. Rod was with me for about 5 years. He used to bite people who raised their voices around me. I clipped his wings so he could not fly very well, but he used to land on my head when I let him out. Eventually he developed a tumor on his belly which weighted him down too much, too. He would let himself out and I'd come home to him waddling down the hallway.

I had Oz, a little peach faced lovebird.

I got her at about 3-4 weeks old, she didn't have any of her pretty colors yet, she was just green.

Oz was a little escape artist, too.

I kept her wings clipped so she could fly far.

She could go from her cage to a curtain rod or a low tree branch.

She could mimic the dog and she would come to me when I called her.

I think I'll get a male next time.

They talk more.

We had parakeets for 20 years. I think we had a total of 11 in that time, usually 2 at a time. After Gmom died, we inherited her two so we had 4 for a while. The last one passed away in August.

Oz liked to get vocal about 5-6 in the morning.

But it wasn't loud.

You could barely hear her in another room.

The birds outside were louder.

My mawmaw had 3 at one time.

I remember playing with them as a very little girl.

Aaron says he would like to have a bird as well.

So maybe 2 lovebirds!

I always wanted a bird, DF says no because they are so noisy. Plus they kind of fling their poo everywhere don't they?

I think they're so cool though!

 Some can be very loud.

The little ones we are talking about are not usually very loud.

Like I said, the birds outside were louder than my Oz.

And they can be messy.

But if they are well taken care of, cages kept clean, have enough social interaction and feel safe, they dont.

Oz liked to play with her food.

She would sometimes throw seed at you to get your attention.

Parakeets are very social creatures. But if you really want them to be more people friendly and hand trained, you should only have one at a time. If you have two, it is a lot harder to finger train them unless you had then as babies. They are also very narcissistic in that if you get them a mirror, they love to preen in front of it. We left the tv on for them as well for the social interaction.

All of ours liked sports. DH would watch the games with them. He would react to the game and the birds would react to him. They would squawk if he watched the game in another room until he turned the tv to the game channel.

I liked having a bird. I had c0ckatiels. My last one died 4 years ago.

I would love to have an African Grey and a Blue and Gold Macaw but do not have the space, time, or money for either. And, honestly, I really don't have the desire for a labor intensive pet.

Just got a call from my pharmacy, seems they may not keep taking Humana after the first of the year.

I love my pharmacy, I hope I don't have to change.

Those are very hands on birds.

Takes a lot of care to keep those happy.

Yep. Avian vets are also expensive.

I also don't want a perpetual toddler for 60+ years.

Truth be told, as much as I want another dog, I'm really enjoying being pet free. It's so convenient to be able to take off whenever and not have to worry about finding a pet sitter.

 True.

Thankfully we have an awesome vet that boards and Monster just loves to pieces.

And I am thinking about who would bird sit if I needed it.

Got any friends who like birds?

My last c0ckatiel, Soco, took a shine to one of my friends. I had to go out of town for a weekend and she bird sat for me. I gave her a key and $20. Soco had a habit of pooping in his water otherwise he would've been fine for 2 days.

I caught DH's cold this past weekend. That cleared up but I had a bad allergy attack yesterday. Throat is sore from all the coughing. My voice was fine when I went to bed last night and completely gone this morning. Sometimes it will come back just enough so I sound like a hamster squeaking but I'd rather not strain my vocal cords so I'm just not speaking. It's been a quiet day, lol!

 Yep.

Laryngitis.

I've had it several times in my life.

Had one jerk boss put me in a drive thru window, temps in the teens, and couldn't speak.

Jerk.

Anyway, what are you doing for it?

Do you have any honey?

Make some warm tea, a splash of milk, a teaspoon of honey and a squeeze of lemon.

It coats, soothes, the honey has antibacterial properties, and the lemon helps heal.

Caitlyn's voice teacher told us about it.

It usually works, helps your voice, almost immediately.

Lily - I didn't do anything about myself but one of the ladies at my Bible study brought me some hot tea with honey. Voice stayed away. Interestingly, it came back right after an encounter DH and I had at Walmart during which we had the opportunity to share the Gospel. I looked up verses to use while DH talked.

That's what my mawmaw would ask.

I learned that false prophets are very much alive and well. Also learned about another false church. I had no idea there were people out there who call themselves Christian yet disbelieve the most basic tenets of the faith.
