Nothing says "comfy and cozy, home sweet home" like concrete. 😐 It makes me feel institutionalized. I don't want my home feeling like an institution.
And yes I have seen the polished concrete and the painted concrete. It's good for countertops and decks but it doesn't belong on the floor inside the home.
Do you have nice rugs on your floors?
We do.
I think it's pretty.
I love the look of the stained concrete floors.
I looked into doing them, when the original flooring in the lower level of our house was, starting to wear out.
(We are in Texas, built on a concrete slab. I thought it would be easy. And less expensive than tile or carpet.)
Boy, was I wrong.
The best time to do the stained concrete, is when you are building the house.
To put it in, after the fact, costs a lot of money. Even if you would be doing it over a slab.
And yes...concrete floors are hard on the back/knees.
So is tile, or hardwood, or anything.....if you live in a house, built on a slab.
(Gel mats in my kitchen, save me.)
At least I can cook, without much pain.
If concrete floors had been popular, in1996...I think I would have hopped on it.
Easy to clean. Put down some area rugs, to soften the look, and make it feel more homey.
There are some beautiful stamped and colored concrete flooring. But I think it would be too difficult on my feet and back. Hardwoods are hard enough. And we had all our carpeting removed when the boys were diagnosed with allergies, except for the basement, which we don't use all that much anymore. I miss the quiet of the carpeting, but we all breathe much better now. And I love the look of pretty turkish rugs on hardwoods.
Our basement has laminate floors in the main rooms and carpet in the bedroom and rec room. For the main room, which is where the animals live, we get a giant carpet remnant rug to go over the floors from Lowe's for about $80 and replace it every year.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Our current apartment has all wood flooring. Pretty sure it's laminate as I doubt they'd put real wood in an apartment. My feet missed the softness of carpet for the first month or so after moving here but I'm used to it now.
