A truckload of manure was dumped in front of the Warren County Democratic Party headquarters in Lebanon, Ohio.
A sheriff’s deputy noticed the pile and notified office leaders of it around 8 a.m. Saturday, the Washington Post reported.
A similar dump happened at the exact same location in 2012, but nobody was caught, the Daily News reported.
“At the time, we did not have a camera system, because it kind of caught us by surprise,” Bethe Goldenfield, chairwoman of the Warren County Democratic Party, said of the 2012 dump to the Washington Post. “We didn’t think something like that would happen.”
This time, security cameras caught the action on tape. Party officials handed over the footage to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office where it’s currently being reviewed.
Goldenfield said that she wouldn’t elaborate on what the cameras captured, but she did say that a dump truck was involved.
“And I’m not going to jump to the conclusion that it was the same person [as in 2012], but of course that crossed my mind,” Goldenfield said. “We just need to have a little more specifics, and then hopefully we’ll bring the perpetrators to be accountable.”
Jeff Monroe, chairman of the Warren County Republican Party, said to Cincinnati.comthat he nor the GOP had anything to do with the incident and offered to help clean up the manure.
The pile was about 15 to 20 feet wide and 3 feet tall at its highest point. It was so high that it almost covered up a sign on the entrance to the building that said, “smile you’re on camera.” The only word that was visible Saturday morning was “smile.”
Volunteers helped clear away the manure along with a contractor the office hired to haul it away, Goldenfield said.
“We had offers from all over — people wanting to help clean it up — and a lot of Dems were asking if they could reuse it, to their credit,” said David Pepper, chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party.
