If you find your bird is not thawing fast enough to cook on
Thursday, use my method on Wednesday.
Put the turkey, still in its plastic packaging, in your dish pan,
put it in the sink, and dribble cold water over the bird for
several hours. Just keep the water at a slow dribble, enough
to cover the bird. Never use hot or warm water - that will
"cook" the outer layer of meat, without really defrosting the
inside. If you can balance it, also let the water dribble into
the inside of the bird Wednesday afternoon - that will make
sure the bird is fully defrosted.

I put the turkey in the shower one year. The stupid thing had been in the fridge for a week and was still frozen solid. I left it wrapped in the plastic, turned the shower on cold and let it run. Thawed it nicely.

The problem is when the turkey will be fried, one needs to make sure the turkey is completely dried.

I am totally off turkey duty this year. I can only hope said turkey is properly thawed.
For the record, I don't think I have ever put a fully thawed turkey in the oven for thanksgiving.
I'm not a cheese snob. I like American cheese on my burgers and that kind of thing.
I bought a store brand, trying to hang on to money these days.
Well, it won't melt.
At all.
Even directly on a hot skillet.
It tastes fine.
Just won't melt.
Crazy.

I'm enjoying relaxing tonight before hitting the ground running tomorrow. My sous chef invited himself over to his grandma's so I won't have my little helper tomorrow. I had to laugh though. My dad came over earlier because I needed to help him with an errand. Rather than hearing what I actually said (eat, grandpa's coming because he needs mommy's help with an errand), he heard pack a bag. I called my grandma to clear it with her and much amusement was had at a 2 year old packing his own bag and declaring that he's going to grandma's.
He's going to have fun getting some quality time with his great uncle. Uncle is off for the next 3 days and DS has him wrapped around his little finger. Uncle is looking forward to when DS is potty trained and a bit older so he can take him more places. DS enjoys going with his great uncle to events. I have a feeling when he's older, he won't be home much.
That is so nice that your son has a fantastic uncle and grandparents who live close by! My parents are 20 minutes away so that's not bad, but I wish they were much closer. I also wish my brother was closer, rather than 3,000 miles away. The boys had a lot of fun with him at the beach house last month.
