Happy Thanksgiving! Wishing everyone a safe and healthy day! I am thankful for all my family and friends, both in real life and online.

DH and I went out for breakfast and now are settling in for a bit before starting prep for dinner. Lazy day. I may even try to go to the movies later. Or stay home and be lazy.

The shirt is pretty cool. The 5k is just over 3 miles. Eventually I might work up to running, but I don't think I will ever make it to marathon level

There are way too many people in the kitchen. This is like a free-for-all everyone doing something. I can't take it. I prefer to cook and everyone leave me alone and stay out of my kitchen. Seeing how it is not my kitchen, I am not in it.

I tried a new deviled eggs recipe last week as a trial run for today and it was just okay. I really just like traditional deviled eggs, any variations I've ever had are never as good. But I'm always trying them anyway if anyone has anything unique!

DD adds a few drops of Louisiana hot sauce to her deviled eggs, and they are awesome.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are stuffed!

Nap mode has set in for several.

This is my first quiet moment of the day.

Lily, your cheese cake looks great!

IKWTDS, hope you had safe travels!

Hope you all are having a wonderful day.

Can I put the Christmas tree up now?

Had an aunt who put green olives in her deviled eggs. Yuck.

Caitlyn takes the stuffing out of the eggs and calls them exercised eggs.

Vette ~

When I make deviled eggs for DH, I add a good "splurt" of
Japanese Wasabi sauce, and very little mayo/Miracle Whip,
plus some regular mustard, s/p, some finely minced sweet
pickle relish, and a sprinkle of paprika on the top.

I also cut the egg in half crosswise, rather than lengthwise,
and I cut a sliver off each rounded end, to make it stand
upright. Makes a nice presentation.

I like a simple deviled egg. Hellman's mayo, Gulden's mustard, top with paprika. Maybe some real bacon bits.

Ok so may need a TG posse.  Need to rescue Pops from her.  I have mentioned things in the past about how her adult children and grandchildren were leeching off him, not that he has money.  But he has had to keep working to support everyone.  He will be 86 next year.  She is verbally abusive, mostly brought on my her constant drinking I think. She is lazy and I get the impression expects him to support her butt.  She even said to one of my Sisters that we, his 5 kids, should be sending them money to let them live the lifestyle they want to live.

Dad is a very loyal person, but I really think we need to kidnap him and file for for a divorce for him.  He isn't saying much but I do think if we open the conversation up to him and present the solution he would be receptive.  My take is he is in a situation he doesn't like but doesn't know how to get out of.

So that is the top level summary. Me and Sibs will hopefully figure this out.  He is on the East Coast for a few months, even though they pay rent on a town home in AZ (her grown children live there still, well at least one)

I think you need to talk to your dad about it.

Involve a lawyer if need be.

He is 86, and while no one wants to think about it, he needs to have clear instructions for the rest of his life.

My cousin had to remove her father from a very similar situation. Please, get a lawyer for your father.

How do you handle leftovers? I just got out a bunch of dinner plates and plated the turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, noodles, veg and covered and put them in the fridge. Instant leftovers for everyone. I am going to make turkey salad later for sandwhiches today. DD loves that. I used to make turkey noodle but everyone was kind of tired of it by then, lol.

I leave some for turkey sandwiches. Some will probably get made into pot pies and frozen. Tetrazinni. Some will go to MIL. Some will be in soup (noodle and cream of). Maybe some chimichangas. Some will be frozen for later useage.

I like one to two days of leftovers. I don't want a week's worth of food. None of us are big fans of leftovers beyond one or two days. And, i don't like to freeze a lot of food because i think it really destroys the flavor.

How much eating do you all do during a typical Thanksgiving? How many sides, appetizers, etc? Do you start by preparing a big breakfast, then lunch and appetizers all day followed by the meal and evening of grazing desserts, etc? I was talking to one guy at work and they have a big breakfast, then appetizers, then lasagna for lunch and dinner later. I honestly dont' think i could eat that much in one day! We dont' eat breakfast. Maybe something small. Then i put out a cheese and cracker tray, veggies, chips and dip which pretty much is lunch. And, then we usually eat about 3 pm. I only make one pie for dessert because that is really all they want.

I don't think I've ever had more than a day, maybe 2, of leftovers.

Generally, everyday leftovers, are just enough for someone to take to lunch the next day.

Unless it is something like chili or soup.

But I try to make meals around those.

Like the chili I made a few nights ago, we used the leftovers with our burgers and hot dogs.

Hubby was in charge of the turkey, and I was in charge of all the side dishes. He fries the turkey so that means it cooks in under 2 hours. EASY planning woot! Till you are already half way thru your side dishes and he comes in saying "dinner is gonna be about 25 minutes later than we planned". Ugh. That threw EVERYTHING off. The stuffing was a bit crispy on the bottom but everything else seemed to fair ok. The potatoes got cold, so alas they had to be microwaved, but it was ok.

All was delicious except the gravy. Never putting him in charge of buying the gravy again. ahha!

I helped Son#3 make a pineapple upside-down cake. There is only a slight sliver of it left!

Breakfast for us is simple, sausage and biscuits usually.

We do our big meal about 1.

No appetizers.

Then we graze the rest of the day on leftovers.
