Toilet paper is the biggest cost for non food items.
We don't buy dog food.
Monster won't eat it.
I use paper plates and plastic cups a lot.
But we are moving away from them.
I have no choice.
I have to budget my money to the penny.
I don't care to eat off of paper plates and plastic cups. I hate plastic forks, etc. I rid my kitchen of plastic. I got rid of all my plastic Gladware and bought glass Pyrex storage. They still have plastic lids but the food is in glass. I even bought a set of glass bottles with stainless steel lids and i fill them with water and juice. I hate plastic bottles. And, i LOVE my Corelle frost white dishes.

Sam's Club has super, super light weight plastic dishes
that are dishwasher safe and last a long, long time. I've
had 5 sets of 4-place settings that I've been using since
2005 - only lost one bread & butter plate. I've used them
for catering, which is a lot harder on the plates than
typical home use. They are white, with green trim, and
look like good china, only much, much thinner and
lighter. They come in a box - service for four people.
There is also a brand of baking casseroles that is safe for
both oven and micro - Pot-Lux. They are extremely light
- surprisingly stable for the oven/micro, usually used for
bringing a dish to a pot luck, where you don't expect to
get your baking utensil back. The lid is unusually tight,
which is good if you are traveling with your food.
Between the Christmas leftovers my grandma sent with us and my usual OCD checking of the meat department for marked down meats, we're good on food for at least the next 2 weeks. Only thing I'll have to buy is salad mix.
I love a good deal so I do look for coupons, marked down, and clearance items. I don't buy stuff I don't need but I do intentionally search out ways to make what I do buy cheaper. We prefer spending our money on experiences (zoo, etc.) so I shop with that in mind.
Hmmm. I wonder why my cooker does 45 m. I'll try 20 + 10 rest and see what happens.
Mine doesn't let me set the time. It's automatic based on how much weight is in the cooker.
mine says it adjusts time based on the moisture in the cooker. Maybe it's because I let it rest on 'warm' rather than open the lid.
You are supposed to let it rest a little bit. My instruction book had a section on adjusting the water/rice ratio and times according to how you like your rice. If you like firmer rice, try using a touch less water.
