I'm soooo sick of seeing gofundme links on facebook. So many of the people can afford whatever it is they want money for. But, it would affect their lifestyle. Don't post about your luxury car and your mani-pedi and then ask for $10,000!
And what about what was the money really spent on? So, Jane's sister raised $10,000 for her and she receives Medicaid and disability. What is that money spent on? It's not like she's missing income.
I don't know, guess people can't even beg right anymore.

The accountability is a huge issue.

Generally if it's for medical expenses the person is better off with getting no help since there are programs for indigent people. If they have insurance I'm sorry it may sound heartless but who did they expect to pay their extra out of pocket expenses? It would be a very rare case where I would donate.
There was a gofundme a while back fro someone that lost everything In a fire. They had chosen to let their homeowners insurance lapse. Really I do not like go fund me's Sam I Am

Friends husband who doesn't work wanted to start a small farm. Wanted $45,000. Didn't want a small business loan. Didn't want investors. Wanted friends and family to shell out $45,000. He got less than $200.
Just because someone sets up a go fund me account doesn't mean the people who its set up for will receive it.
A young mother died suddenly and someone set up a go fund me account for them for funeral cost and so far the family has never received the funds that people donated to pay for the funeral. You are better off leaving donations with the funeral home.

There was a former local lady, who left her husband, abused the system by claiming to have been abused (she was the abuser and everyone knew it) and wanted $10,000 so she could divorce her husband.
She wouldn't let former DH see their kids until she was ordered to by the court either.
She got $75.00. IMHO that was to much for her. She is a bitch and as mean as they come. I don't know if she actually got the money, but people were not going to donate so she could continue to abuse her DH and the kids.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.
I get a bit ticked off at the people who are asking for money when they have a fire or for funeral expenses. Yeah I get you lost everything in a fire and I have compassion and will bring clothes immediately, but you are getting insurance money to cover the losses, you don't to ask people for furniture and pots and pans. And the funeral expenses? I have a boatload of life insurance but am still doing cremation and non burial. Don't spend 20K on a funeral, it just isn't needed.
My es SIL dog needed surgery for kidney stones. She could have let him pass them but didn't want him to feel the pain. Surgery was 7K. She has been on welfare her whole life and then living off her DD's welfare. She got $10.

I have seen a few that are relevant, like people who have had massive emergency medical procedures and then are unable to work/support their family for some time. The debt can really build up and then there are kids to take care of while 1 parent can't even get out of bed. I don't mind to donating to something like that.

Oh okay. DH bought a coupon book from Giant not too long ago and we haven't used it. I think the proceeds were going to some charity. I was going to send it to you.

It use to be good, but now it's just way, way, too big and everything costs way too much.

I saw something on facebook and immediately thought of this thread.
One of my friends shared a gofundme page for a friend of hers. This friend just had a baby. While she was pregnant, she decided she was going to give the baby up for adoption. Well, she has the baby and changes her mind. So now "she has nothing and needs everything"
I guess go fund me can be a big help but wouldn't be better to just leave donations towards the funeral with the funeral home? I think part of the donation is taken out by the gofundme.com. I could be wrong though.

You are correct, Lindley. The funerals I donated to I should have done to the funeral home directly.
