I'm up, frigid today. Picking DD up at noon. I wanted to take her away for a couple of days but tomorrow the driving is a no go, freezing rain and snow. So I am thinking she should have a friend over and Wednesday we will do a day trip. Have to back for her first ortho appt Thursday morning.

I really need to go to the store or the bank. A local veteran lost his home to a fire yesterday. The only thing he has is the clothes on his back and his 3 dogs. My friend's husband works with him and is trying to help. I want to either give him some cash or a Walmart gift card. I wish I had cash on me. Friend lives really close and I wouldn't have to venture into town. 9 1/2 hours left of call....
That is sad SB. Does he have a place to stay that accepts the dogs?
His daughter lives close. He can stay with her. His immediate need is some clothes, shoes, underthings, and toiletries. Someone is already looking for a rental for him. My friend and her DH have huge hearts, they are my spiritual rocks. I know they will make sure this man is well taken care of. I'm trying to decide on a dollar amount to give them. I didn't do much charity this year so this is my chance to do something.
SB, so glad the man has good friends to help him out in his time of need.
We had the wind storm from hell after the thunder/ice storms yesterday. I thought the fence was going to go, it popped and cracked so loudly. 50+ with gusts up to 70+mph. Flipped semi's in many areas. A lot of power outages from downed trees and snapped poles. DD drove home in that wind storm and said it felt like her suburban was lifted several times. Scary for all.
We are down to a brisk breeze of 40+ this morning.
My body is experiencing the dreaded "Christmas binge eating hangover"..
DS and little man are still here. Little man is full of energy as usual, the rest of us, not so much.
The house is a disaster..

Wow. I slept until 10! I really needed it, that's for sure. The last three days prepping for everything have been crazy. I was so soundly alseep, I didn't even hear my mom come downstairs to get stuff out of the fridge. We're off in a couple hours to go to my uncles for big family Christmas. I might have a slightly enjoyable time. But there will be too many people and too many kids, so I'm not holding my breath. I wonder how mad my mom will be if I take a book.....

Can you go online to Walmart and send an e-gift card? Then you wouldn't have to leave
The gentleman is blessed to have good friends like you sb and your friends to help him. It is hard to lose everything to a fire. Glad your dd got home safe czech. Glad to hear everyone had a good Christmas.
I'm so tired. Not going to do much but maybe some laundry.
Dad, apparently hurt his ankle Saturday, and has it braced and propped up in the den. That's very unusual for him. He didn't say anything til he got back from the clinic. Which is typical dad.
Just doing some laundry, watching SPN reruns, and cruising the board.
Happy Monday, ya'll.

Just got back from a V E R Y successful trip. Met a couple
from Kentucky at a recent Eastern Star function, and I
complimented him on the bolo he was wearing - he said
it was one of his favorites, and he was looking for more.
YIPPEE! I've been trying to sell late DH's collection of
(very expensive) bolos. He selected a large turquoise
belt/bolo set, a mother-of-pearl/abalone bolo, two
silver chains, and a smaller eagle bolo. His wife wrote
the check for me without blinking an eye; I think she
will be calling me in the future about the most expensive
piece. Her DH was looking at it, and looking at it. Its a
museum quality Zuni bolo, signed by the artist. I'll give
her a break on the price, since she bought other items.
A "bolo" is a western type of tie. Usually a decorative
disk, tied with a braided lanyard, with decorative tips
on the ends. Can be used in casual or ultra formal
settings, especially if it is a "statement" piece. 2x2
is a typical size; the turquoise bolo was 2x3, and the
matching belt buckle was 4x4. You have to be a
large person to carry that off!
2 more family events this season! And a visit to my auntie tomorrow but it's been snowing and raining and slushing all day. If it freezes it's going to be terrible. Two cars off the road in the 10 minute drive I've home from my friends house. Ick.
What momala said, they are worn instead of a neck tie.
