Boring but necessary.  Mine for my townhome/condo is coming due in early February and I've never been happy with Safeco.  Last February the price, including earthquake insurance (which you need to carry in CA or you're a fool) was getting exorbitant.

Is anyone happy with theirs and had good experiences with claims?  I don't have anything to claim but that aspect is pretty darned important.

AMICA, though I don't know if they cover where you are.

Excellent, this is the stuff I'm looking for!

NO:  AllState, Geico and Progressive

LOOK INTO:  MetLife, AMICA and Travelers.

Having a condo instead of a traditional home limits my choices somewhat.  I would go with Ameriprise in a heartbeat but they don't do condos.

Has anyone had experience with AAA?

Nooo to AAA. They source it out. Who knows where you'll end up.

I have Nationwide, one of the few that would write a 1912 600 sq ft house. The take my money each year, no claims.

I hate the CEA (earthquake) every year I pay they insist I have to pay the installment fee even though I pay in full. A year later I get a check, too small to cash which goes unclaimed to the state.

I have State Farm, and yes, they cost a bit more, but I'm not going to complain. They replaced 2 roofs for me this year without a hassle. Also - their car insurance rates were lower which offset the higher HOI cost. And if you have an alarm system, you get a 20% discount.

There are no checks too small to cash.  Just deposit it.

Amica if you can get it in CA. I made a claim with them due to a fallen tree and they were quick and courteous. Unlike Geico you tried their damnedest to not pay for a kitchen fire.

We love, love, love the Farm Bureau. I'm just not sure it's available in CA. Their rates are reasonable and they pay claims promptly.

That is all Geico does.  The worst.

Pretty sure we have state farm now and that we are happy. I will have to check with the hubby and let you know if I am wrong.

I had State Farm when I had my house. I never had to make a claim, but I thought my rates were reasonable and their customer service was always great. One time my bank got my account number switched with another mortgage that was in the foreclosure process, because of this, they didn't pay my insurance out of escrow. My local State Farm agent called me because they hadn't received my payment. That's how I found out the bank was about to mistakenly foreclose on my house.

We were with US Lloyds for years, for homeowners insurance.

The rates kept going up and up.

We have been with Safeco for car insurance, for years. And they have been wonderful.

So, a couple of years ago, I switched to Safeco for the homeowners insurance.

Our rate jumped from $153 a month, to $172 a month, after one year.

Our insurance renews in August. I'm waiting to see if there is another rate hike.

I might have to go shopping again, too.cry
